Do you rely on public transportation? If so, the Antelope Valley Transit Authority wants your input on proposed service changes to its fixed route system. They say the changes will eliminate duplicative service, improve efficiency and cut operating costs. In the new plan, express service will be added to Route 1 with stops at the following locations every 45 minutes:
- University of the Antelope Valley
- Lancaster City Park
- 10th Street West and Avenue M
- Antelope Valley Mall
- Palmdale Transportation Center
Additionally, the new plan will discontinue Routes 8 and 9; a supplemental route will be added to serve Pete Knight High School; and Route 6 will be modified to serve Sun Village. The plan is slated to go into effect November 7, 2011. See a map of the new routes here.
The AVTA is also seeking public input on the need for improved connections to Palmdale Transportation Center, Lancaster City Park and Metrolink. AVTA representatives will contact various community groups to share information regarding the changes and to solicit public input. You may also visit the AVTA’s administrative office at any time to discuss the changes with staff.
An Open House for residents looking to register their comments or to find out more about the proposed changes will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 1, at the AVTA facility. Comments may also be submitted to Candice Rudolph at crudolph@avta.com.
