PALMDALE – Officials are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a deadly hit-and-run accident that occurred early Tuesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol reports an elderly black female was struck by an unknown vehicle on 50th Street East, south of Avenue M. Following the collision the vehicle fled the scene.
“It happened around midnight or five minutes after,” said CHP Officer K. Wheeler. “The female pedestrian was in the roadway or near the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle or possibly a couple of other vehicles.”
The body was discovered about 12:05 a.m. Tuesday morning. There were no witnesses to the accident, and Tuesday afternoon, detectives still had no information regarding the suspect or the vehicle. CHP officials have not released the victim’s name because her next of kin has not been notified.
Police are asking anyone with information on the accident to contact the CHP’s Antelope Valley office at 661-948-8541.
UPDATE: CHP officials have identified the women killed in the hit-and-run accident as Zenobia Schurlock, 82, of Lancaster.
