LANCASTER – An appearance by singer and 1950s teen idol Pat Boone will be just one of many features of Senior Expo 2011, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds.
The theme for this year’s Expo is “Once Upon a Time,” a storybook theme, and the event offers a full day of excitement for seniors, say organizers.
“We’re really excited about all the features of Senior Expo this year,” said Kay McNeal, marketing director for High Desert Medical Group. “We’ve got bingo, antique appraisals, Tai Chi and Nintendo WII demonstrations. And we’ve got a “glass slipper” grocery card raffle and a Grand Prize raffle offering a $500 gift card by Merrill Gardens.”
The crowning of King and Queen of Senior Expo will take place at 9:30 a.m. Then at 11 a.m. there will be an award ceremony where the new “Senior of the Year” will be announced and nominees will also be recognized.
All-around entertainer Pat Boone will take the stage at 1 p.m. In addition to the special celebrity guest appearance, the Senior Expo will feature local entertainment, free health screenings and seasonal flu shots for seniors 62 and over. Health screenings will include bone density, cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body fat, vision and more. Over 100 vendors are scheduled to participate.
Parking and admission are free for this event, which is sponsored by High Desert Medical Group and Heritage Health Care. For more information on this event, contact (661) 951-3043 or (661) 951-3046.
