PALMDALE – The Coro Ges men’s choir from Schio, Italy, paid a visit to Palmdale City Hall on Wednesday for a meet and greet with Mayor Jim Ledford, which was followed by an impromptu choral show for the employees and visitors at the City’s Development Services building.
Ledford officially welcomed the choir and Schio Mayor Luigi Dalla Via at a ceremony at the Palmdale City Council Chamber. Dalla Via was presented with a commendation, while the members of the choir each received a gift bag with mementos.
“It truly was an honor to have these talented singers take the time out of their busy tour schedule to visit us at City Hall,” Ledford said.
Currently, Coro Ges is on a musical tour of California with three local stops. Their repertoire features traditional folk mountain songs along with a few popular songs from central and southern Italy, performed in both Spanish and English.
Coro Ges was originally founded in 1948 by Raffaele Labiti, who envisioned a group of men cherishing genuine friendship, love for the mountains and passion for choral singing. Since then, the group has performed around the world in various prestigious choral competitions, and placed three times among the best in the “National Mountain Song Festival” in Rome, Italy.
