LANCASTER – University of Antelope Valley founders, Marco and Sandra Johnson, presented the third $10,000 installment of their $100,000, 10-year commitment to the Athletic and Cheer Departments of Antelope Valley High School.
A ceremony, in recognition of Johnsons’ commitment to their alma mater, took place Friday evening at the Brent Newcomb football stadium before AV’s football game against Palmdale.
“It feels great to be back out on this field,” said Marco Johnson, who was a three sport athlete at AV, and football Team Captain when the Lope’s won the CIF Championship in 1981. “My participation in the sports program here at AV helped shape me in so many positive ways, teaching me the value of teamwork, leadership skills, and that hard work pays off. It is a privilege to be able to give back and support these departments at a time they really need it.”
Sandra Johnson who was Dance Team Captain said: “It was my experience here at AV that fueled my passion for dance, and the focus it gave me played a pivotal role in keeping me from walking a more difficult path. Without these programs, many young people would be lost to the streets. The dedication of these coaches and educators is incredible, and we will continue supporting them in any way we can.”
