LOS ANGELES –The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has ended. The operation resulted in more than two thousand DUI arrests in Los Angeles County in the past 17 days from local routine traffic enforcement and special “Avoid the 100” DUI deployments, authorities announced Tuesday.
From 12:01 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16 through 12 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, officers representing 100 county law enforcement agencies arrested 2,433 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
During the same time period last year, 2,406 people were arrested for DUI.
Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Law enforcement officials will be conducting more DUI operations throughout Los Angeles County during Super Bowl Sunday in February and then again for local St Patrick’s Day Festivities in March.
