PALMDALE – Can you sing? Are you ready to unleash the rock star inside you?
The 2nd annual AV Idol, a singing contest showcasing local talent of all ages, is set to take place at Antelope Valley Mall beginning April 18. The entire competition consists of four Wednesday evening performances: April 18, April 25, May 2, and May 9. The competition starts at 6 p.m. each night.
Singers will compete against others in their respective age groups: Kids (5-12), Teens (13-19) and Adults (20 and up). Each performance evening will narrow the field of candidates until the final round, where the last three from each age group will be ranked in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. As the competition progresses, the singers will be evaluated by a panel of five judges. Those with the highest scores will advance to the next round within their age groups. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners in each age category, which will be announced on the final AV Idol night, Wednesday, May 9.
Of the nine AV Idol winners, one will be selected by the judges to sing the National Anthem at the 2012 AMGEN Tour of California Palmdale Stage Start on May 18 at Marie Kerr Park. The Tour is an eight-day cycling race that features elite professional teams and professional and Olympic athletes from around the world. The event will air on the NBC Sports Channel and the singer will be announced on Palmdale’s Twitter, Facebook and official website.
