Multiple shots fired at Lancaster Deputy during DUI traffic stop

LANCASTER – A deputy making an early morning traffic stop in Lancaster Sunday was greeted by a hail of gunfire, according to a Sheriff’s press report. The bullets missed the deputy, but hit the storefronts of two local businesses near the intersection of Avenue J and 20th Street West.

Authorities arrested 29-year-old Donald Ray Scott of Palmdale near the scene. A second possible suspect, 34-year-old Wilbur Winston Williams of Lancaster, was arrested at 10:02 a.m. Sunday near the 44000 block of Fern Avenue. Both suspected were booked for Attempted Murder on a Peace Officer and each are being held on $1 million bail.

The following is the press report from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

Multiple shots were fired at a Lancaster sheriff’s deputy Sunday at 2:20 a.m. when he attempted to make a traffic stop of a suspected drunk driver.

The incident began when the suspect vehicle pulled into a parking lot near the intersection of Avenue J and 20th Street West, followed by the deputy in his marked black and white sheriff’s radio car.

Several shots were fired from the suspect vehicle in the direction of the deputy. The gunfire missed the deputy, but the storefronts of two local businesses were hit by gun shots, including at least one round that shattered a window. No people were hit.

The suspect vehicle and its two occupants fled the scene and the deputy immediately requested backup deputies via his sheriff’s radio. The deputy followed the path he last saw the suspect vehicle, which was northbound onto the 14 freeway from Avenue J.

While searching for the suspects, the deputy found that the suspect vehicle had collided into a fence on Avenue I at the freeway off ramp. The two suspects fled the vehicle on foot.

Assisting Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies quickly arrived and set up a containment (surrounded the area) and located and detained one of the suspects in a field north of Avenue I. 29-year old Suspect Donald Ray Scott of Palmdale, who is on Probation, was arrested at the scene.

The second suspect was not found at the scene during the search.

A handgun was found in the suspects’ vehicle.

The investigation continued through the early morning hours, and at 10:02 a.m. Sunday, a second possible suspect, 34-year old Suspect Wilbur Winston Williams of Lancaster, was located and arrested by sheriff’s investigators near on the 44000 block of Fern Avenue in Lancaster.

Both suspects were booked at Lancaster Sheriff’s Station for Attempted Murder on a Peace Officer and are each being held on $1,000,000.00 bail.

It so sad that people say whitie here like it’s a everday word, but if a white people says the N (I CAN’T EVEN TYPE THAT WORD CAUSE IT’S A UGLE WORD)WORD WE ARE RACIST. HAVE RESPECT FOR EVERONE NO MATTER WHAT RACE THEY ARE,you are in charge of how your life turns out, too many people are so busy blamming others for the way their lives turned out, instead of blamming the right person themselves.

  3. I think some commenters (you know who you are!) will find the following passage a wake up call…

    My son wears a hoodie every single day to school. He covers his head faithfully and rarely hears friends say hello as we walk inside or adults saying good morning as he tends to be lost in his own world, muffled by the hoodie around his ears.

    My son would do anything for his little sister and happily get her candy. He would even question any adult questioning him for no reason- as we have taught him to stand up for himself, speak out for what is right, and question authority. He would run from strangers. He would, however, feel safe with a police office.
    I think.

    My son, however, can do all of these things without fear. He is white. He ‘belongs’ in that suburb. He looks like every other white kid in the area and a ‘neighborhood watch captain’ would easily dismiss his walking down the street as a normal, every day occurrence. As would a police officer. As would the community.

    As a white mother to a white son, I’ve never had to explain to him what he should and should not do when confronted by police. I’ve never had to talk with him about how the world views him or prayed he wouldn’t be next.

    Yet we live in a world where people deny racial issues still exist. They do not even understand white privilege. They actively cry ‘reverse racism’ as if they are the victim. They even have the nerve to call those who fight for racial equality ‘race baiters,’ ’racers’ and have attempted to spin and twist and re-write history as if THEY have lost out because Americans owned slaves and those slaves were oppressed for generations, after which they were then oppressed under Jim Crow and then under the institutionalized racism that continues to permeate our culture today.

    Yet these NON ‘of color’ victims’ have started a very dangerous trend, a very risky trend, a very uninformed and downright stupid trend that has them looking like very scared white folk, realizing their hold over the majority-and power-is slipping.

    You see, as ‘one of you’ I get to hear all about it from family and friends and neighbors and others who seem to think that just because I am white I ‘understand’ what they mean when they say ‘our neighborhood is changing’ and ‘that school has too many kids who don’t speak like our kids’ or ‘you know the high school only recruited him because he can play ball.’

    Then there are the comments on blogs and national media calling the NAACP racist, the United Negro College Fund racist, and those who support our President racist because we have the nerve to notice these overwhelmingly white people are angry and saying things and doing things they would NEVER do if the man occupying the oval office were caucasian.

    They say all these things while innocent children, carrying candy in a suburb, are shot for walking down the street while black. As Jackie Summers writes,

    “This isn’t some fresh new hell; it’s torn open old wounds most would prefer to believe have healed.
    The concept that you are suspicious.
    The concept that you have to justify where you are and what you’re doing.
    The concept that there are people who are so afraid of you, they feel they’re protecting themselves and others, by killing you, even if you’re unarmed.
    The concept that those charged with law can show up, knowing exactly what happened, and choose not to uphold it.
    The concept that it requires a national outrage to incite justice.
    The concept that there are those who would vociferously defend the murderer out of one corner of their mouths, and accuse the murdered from the other.
    For no other reason than the color of your skin.”

    Yet if you were to read a Right Wing blog today, you would think THEY were the victim or horrible racial attacks. The last I checked, white children like mine, even in hoodies, even walking in a suburb with candy, were not being shot for walking while white.

    It is far from time for the white, right-wing to drop this act of victimhood in the American stories of racial inequality. It is embarrassing. It is ignorant. It is offensive.

    Trayvon is not the first black child to die, he will not be the last. We owe it to every child to move the discussion on race FORWARD. Forward means NOT back to eras that have long past and have long ago put an indelible mark of hatred and evil on our nation that some on the right seem to think have been made up for, erased, or should be at the very least whitewashed, refusing to feel guilt for something they had nothing to do with. I don’t feel guilt as a white liberal, I feel anger. I feel anger that some conservatives say they see no color, claim to operate on an even playing field, and refuse to even discuss racial implications in any debate for fear they will have to be honest with themselves, our history, and the glaringly obvious fact we have NOT come as far as we would like to think.

    We owe it to children of color to know the world MY children have grown up knowing. Where they don’t need to be told that they have to make allowances for other people’s racism because …’That’s part of the burden of being black. We can be defiant and dead or smart and alive.”

    It is time to change the conversation, and it starts with the adults. I have no right to send my son to school tomorrow morning in his hoodie without fear, when so many other mothers will be sending their sons off wondering if they will ever come home.

  5. I dont think it is funny. Racism is only funny to white people. And you all act like you have never done anything wrong. People make mistakes what you dont know is one of these “suspects” had a master’s degree in accounting. People make jokes ab these racist police and think its all fun and games when white people commit worse crimes than blacks and it is over looked. Unless you are Jesus then no one can judge another’s actions becuase we all do things that not everyone was appoved of. im not defending his actions but thats my family and Ill stick by him reguardless.

    • One love, the problem with your type is: when whitey commits a crime against blacks,its automatically racism, the world must come to an end, and everyone should take to the street to protest the alleged injustice. When black on black crime occurs, you and your so called leaders are silent. When black on white crime occurs, you are quick to point out we are not God, we shouldn’t judge, the system let him down, we shouldn’t rush to judgement,blah blah blah. That’s why you aren’t taken seriously by main stream media. And wtf difference does it make if one of the shooters had a degree (allegedly)????? Who cares!?

    • The only reason one of these suspects had a “masters degree” in accounting is because colleges and universities have been forced to lower their standards to allow scum like this into them.

    • I love how all of these ghetto people try to invoke Jesus and God whenever they shoot people or get caught doing so. If they were so “god like” they wouldn’t have been shooting at people in the first place. Yes, please go back to the ghetto! I guess Reed Keith’s killer was a follower of Jesus too. Or at least that is what his mama will tell all of us.

(20th West and AVE J), Anyone else notice it is the same intersection that Beau and Jeff were killed at a month ago by a scumbag drunk driver!….WE NEED THESE LOW LIFE MAGGOTS OFF THE STREETS!!!!

  11. According to the LASD Booking report, Scott is a male black. I am wondering if there will be a news conference from our Human Relations Task Force to condemn this attack on our law enforcement.

    • Why does everything have to be about race?? This was a criminal act by two criminals, period! Their race didn’t make them commit the crime, their ill intentions did. Why can’t we just leave it at that?

      • Because the media feels that everything is racially motivated. My response here was ‘tongue in cheek” The fact that our local Human Rights Task Force bills itself as a protector and advocate of the people and is no where to be found in these types of situations. Just facts Lamont. Race should NEVER play a part but our leftist media injects it each and every time.

        • Exactly! TCAL, LULAC, NAACP, AVHRC, and Bradley Gage all claim that the deputies out here are racist killers. Yet, here is another example in just two days were our deputies have arrested murderous individuals without any shots being fired by the law enforcement. If they were such corrupt trigger happy murderers like many posters on this site have said in the past, then they definitely would have felt justified in killing these guys. And one of these guys was caught and arrested in the middle of the night in a pitch black desert field (no witnesses). Yet, our deputies were professional as usual and arrested these killers without incident. TCAL and NAACP should be presenting an award to the Lancaster Sheriffs. Well?

          • 99% of the time this is how deputies conduct business (at least here in the AV). yeah, like in any organization, you have some bad eggs that have to be weeded out.

          • I note there are these smarmy comments by jokesters who believe they are so clever, trying to make some kind of link between these incidents, and the Florida murder of the innocent black kid. There is no comparison. And, it’s not funny.

            No one cares if these murderous criminals on parole are put away for life. Like these guys who fired on the cops. No one is defending this ilk.

            But what if a black security guard, with a known racist bent, no police training, and the Police telling him point blank, not to pursue some innocent white kid with a hoodie on? And the black security guard hunts down, and executes the white kid? Do you think the black security guard should be allowed to walk away??? Heck no. Not in this scenario, and not in the Florida Martin case, either.
