Hayden Zimmerman is the Mayor’s Athlete of the Month

LANCASTER – At the Lancaster City Council meeting Tuesday, Quartz Hill High School senior Hayden Zimmerman, a three time individual wrestling Golden League Champion, was presented with the Mayor’s Athlete of the Month Award by Mayor R. Rex Parris.

Zimmerman has helped lead his team to three Golden League team championships at Quartz Hill High School.

“Young scholars like Hayden are truly worthy of recognition,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “In addition to being a great athlete, he is also an excellent student who has demonstrated that hard work and perseverance are keys to success.”

Zimmerman, a four year member of the varsity wrestling team, was a member of both the 2009 CIF Championship team, as well as the 2010 CIF Finalist teams. This season Zimmerman finished second place at the 2012 CIF Southern Section finals with a record of 43-9.

As a result of his impeccable performance, Zimmerman has been named to the All-League team two years in a row. In addition, he has also been named The Antelope Valley Press Wrestler of the Week.

Zimmerman, like all recipients of the Athlete of the Month award, was selected based on not only his athletic accomplishments, but his academic achievements and community involvement as well. Zimmerman sets an ideal example for other students by maintaining a balance between his academic work, sports and community service. For the past two years he has volunteered at Relay for Life, and has become a member of the American Cancer Society club at Quartz Hill High School.

As a result of his numerous accomplishments and his cumulative 3.40 Grade Point Average, Zimmerman has been contacted by a number of universities. He plans to major in Criminal Investigation.
