PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s parks and recreation department received four International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA)/Hass & Wilkerson Pinnacle awards, including a gold medal for the Best Single New Sponsorship Program, at the convention held in Ft. Worth, Texas.
The innovative recycling programs, “It’s Hip to Be Green” and “Recycling Rocks,” held during Palmdale’s Thursday Night on the Square and Starlight Concerts, combined to earn the gold award. The programs were the result of an innovative sponsorship partnership proposed by Waste Management, in which attendees of these events who were caught “green handed” – properly disposing their trash and recyclable items in the correct waste container – were awarded a new solar powered backpack, courtesy of Waste Management.
“It is indeed an honor to be recognized by this prestigious organization,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Keri Brady. ”In addition to these events providing quality entertainment for our residents, we were also able to help get the message out about how good recycling is for our environment.”
“Waste Management is proud to have sponsored these events which helped increase awareness of the importance of recycling,” said Waste Management’s Sandra Pursley. “Our mantra was and is, if it’s not ooey, gooey or chewy, then recycle it!”
Palmdale also won a silver award in the Best Street Banner category for its Starlight Concert Series banners sponsored by American Medical Response, and two bronze awards for Best Promotional Brochure (TNOTS), and Best Miscellaneous Printed Materials (TNOTS/Starlight Concert Series/DryTown Water Park direct mail).
Each year, the IFEA recognizes outstanding accomplishments and top quality creative, promotional, operational and community outreach programs and materials produced by festivals and events around the world, with the Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Competition. This prestigious awards competition strives for the highest degree of excellence in festival and event promotions and operations, and in doing so, has raised the standards and quality of the festivals & events industry to new levels.
