LANCASTER –Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered residents and their allies are encouraged to attend a Town Hall Meeting this Saturday.
The second annual event is being held by The Outreach Center and takes place at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 12 at the Antelope Valley Transit Authority, located at 42210 6th Street West, north of Avenue M. The event is free and open to the public.
“It’s an opportunity for us to share with the community what we have been doing in terms of advocacy, social events, education, and fundraising, as well as what is upcoming, which is of course the Pride Festival,” said OUTreach Board Member Sue Dell.
During the Town Hall Meeting, organizers will share information about the upcoming AV PRIDE Festival, which is scheduled for June 30 at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. Attendees will be invited to volunteer at the PRIDE Festival, as well as to participate in Thursday Night on the Square at Poncitlan Square in Palmdale.
The OUTreach Center Board will also like to hear from attendees about what they would like to see from the OUTreach Center in the coming year.
“What, if anything, they would like us to look at that we’re not currently doing,” Dell said. ”Because we cannot effectively represent the interest of our community without their input.”
If attendees would like to raise issues going on in the community that affect LGBTQ residents, they are invited to do so, as well.
Immediately following the Town Hall Meeting, the OUTreach Center will hold a “Roll in the Hay” Country Barn Dance. The Barn Dance will be held across the street in the SEIU building at 42231 6th Street West.
DJ Ceil will be playing pop hits, and instructor Jon Rivera will teach line-dancing. Tickets to the “Roll in the Hay” Country Barn Dance can be purchased for $5 online at www.outreachcenterav.org/store.html. Tickets will also be available at the door for $8.
