LANCASTER – A driver searching for his wallet veered off the road and crashed into a fire hydrant around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
“When he hit the fire hydrant, he was launched and he landing upside down in his vehicle,” said Lancaster Station Deputy Amos Cisneros. “He was wearing a seatbelt, which saved his life.”
The collision caused a water geyser on Sierra Highway, just north of Avenue M in Lancaster.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, did not sustain any injuries.
Cisneros said the single-vehicle collision illustrates what happens when drivers take their attention off the roadway, even for a second.
“Basically this accident shows the importance, when you’re driving, of keeping your attention on the task that is at hand,” Cisneros said, “and the importance of wearing your seatbelt in case you do get into a collision.”
Traffic was affected for about 45 minutes as work crews shut the water off.

There we go! Proof that we need a law against looking for your wallet while driving. How about a law against shaving and driving too? How about adjusting the stereo? It’s called INATTENTION!! It has nothing to do with individual forms of inattention, like a cell phone. If you’re capable of driving and talking on the phone, more power to you, and the government shouldn’t interfere.

Glad no one else was hurt! A little helpful advice…wait until you are in the McDonalds Drive Thru before you look for your wallet next time! Thanks!
