LANCASTER – A 51-year-old Palmdale man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to shooting and killing a man in Lancaster late last month.
Freddie Wayne Grigsby is charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 47-year-old Vance Lamar Jones.
The shooting happened around 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 in the 500 block of West Oldfield Street, according to a sheriff’s press report.
Jones was shot multiple times and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the report states.
Sheriff’s detectives said the shooting appears to be drug and gang-related.
Grigsby turned himself in to the Palmdale Station one day after the shooting and has since remained in custody.
After pleading not guilty Tuesday, Grigsby was ordered back to custody on $2 million bail. A preliminary hearing on the case is set for Thursday, Sept. 20.

Another senseless and selfish act. Aside from self defense, I will never understand what drives people to kill another human being. Then again, since this is allegedly drug/gang-related, the person who committed this act was most likely not in control of his own mind.
I can’t help but wonder: were detectives actively seeking Freddie Wayne Grigsby? Meaning, did he turn himself in because he knew they were looking for him? Or was it spontaneous?
