Carl’s Jr. robbed at gunpoint

Lancaster detectives are looking for a suspect after a local Carl’s Jr. restaurant was robbed at gunpoint late Sunday afternoon. Photo by LUIS MEZA.

LANCASTER – A Lancaster fast food restaurant was robbed at gunpoint Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. Sunday at the Carl’s Jr. restaurant in the 44000 Block of Valley Central Way in Lancaster, according to Lt. Kroeger of the Lancaster Station.

A suspect entered the restaurant with a gun, demanded money and then escaped on foot, Kroeger said.

A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available Monday.

The suspect robbed the restaurant of about $900, according to a Lancaster Station broadcast.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact Lancaster Station detectives at 661-948-8466. If you would like to remain anonymous, you may do so by calling Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

  2. I am shocked and appalled at each and everyone of you for blaming the restaurant for being robbed. Are you kidding me?????? What happened to morals in this society? What happened to respect for each other?

    For those that feel its the business owners fault for some jerk robbing them at gunpoint, why don’t you post your address for the criminals to come take your property, money and personal belongings while pointing a gun at your head….. that way when you whine and bitch that you were robbed we can blame you for not having a security guard or having stuff that was too nice!

    (oh and before anyone gets on their high horse, this is not a race war, this is for black, white, brown, purple and green people – I don’t care what color you are, robbing and threatening folks trying to make an honest living is …………….. AGAINST THE LAW ……………..

      Let me explain; the restaurant is profiting from the customers who come into the restaurant and also from the employees who actually do the work.
      Stay with me here, the key word is profiting.

      If I were profiting from my home, which is to say dealing with thousands of dollars everyday. Then yes, I would definitely hire security.

      Its not the stores fault they were robbed, it is their fault they didn’t do anything to prevent it.

      • Terry your argument is quite interesting. So, you are telling me that anyone that makes a profit and gets robbed will be THEIR fault because they didn’t pay for a security guard? So, does that mean that if they had a security guard and they were still robbed then………………………. who’s fault is it?

        I am really sad to see that your morals are this twisted. Why should a legitimate business have to pay to have someone stand outside and then what….. watch them get robbed?

        Stater Bros has security and they were robbed. Walmart has security and they were robbed. So, I would like to know from you… Who’s fault is it now?

          • Terry, They do keep their money locked in cash registers, not in baskets on the counter for everyone to help themselves. If people can’t respect someone else’s money/property enough to not steal something just because they can or because it isn’t being guarded by someone with a gun…they have a problem.

          • They do have security IN the store, OUTSIDE of the store and UNDER COVER…..

            The fact remains that nobody has the right to take something that isn’t theirs. Business or personal it doesn’t belong to them, they didn’t work for it and they are not entitled to it.

            I have a lot of high end personal items, does that mean I need to hire a security guard to watch my stuff? NO, that means that I worked for it and its MINE not some jerk who feels he is entitled to it because he likes it….

            Sorry, my mom and dad raised me with better morals and ethics…..

          • Yes the have undercover police that sit in a room and view the cameras so yes walmart has cameras

      • I respect the concept and we do in fact see it implemented in extreme cases (walmart and night clubs), but for the majority of businesses they are no more required to provide security than you would be in your home.
        Businesses pay taxes just like individuals and those taxes go toward law enforcement. It’s the responsibility of the local law enforcement to protect the community with a reasonable level of support. Putting a deputy or security guard at every business that exchanges money is unrealistic and a massive waste of resources.

          • Well, the reality is an armed security guard doesn’t make big bucks, not like a real cop. I’m going to venture a guess of $10-$12/hr. Plus benefits and all the overhead of their uniform, gun, etc. Can I guesstimate $20/hr cost to the business? I’m not a business owner nor have I ever shopped around for an armed security guard, so I honestly don’t know, but $20 seems reasonable and possibly even on the low side. Then $900 equates to 45 hours’ pay for a security guard. The restaurant is probably open a good 16 hours a day, lobby hours, so that’s not even 3 days’ cost for a full-time armed security guard.

            That’s why they don’t have a full-time armed security guard, duh.

          • Are you kidding? Armed guard’s don’t make squat.Even if your numbers are correct these fast food place pull in thousands every day!!

            Forbid that a rich franchise or corporation should shell out a few bucks to protect their customers and employees.

            A better idea is just let these animals steal at will.

            What if someone was killed during the commission of one of these robberies.Would you be complaining about the cost then.

            It is not only about the money it is also about human life. Duh.

          • I’m not sure why I don’t get a reply button on your last comment. Are you aware of what the average profit margin is in the restaurant industry, specifically fast food? It’s about 5.9% (source: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/operating-margins-restaurants-21413.html). 5.9% of $3000 is $177. Based on my assumption that the security guard company would probably charge about $20/hr to pay a guard around $10-$12 (unarmed guards make around minimum to slightly more, so I assume an armed guard gets at least a couple bucks more for their ability to carry and shoot), 9 hours of security guard service would eat up the day’s profit margins.

            Even businesses in Compton or Camden don’t have cops or armed guards present every hour they’re open. I’m pretty sure Adam Chant is a local small business owner, and I respect his view on topics like this since he should be well-informed from his firsthand perspective — whereas you haven’t given me any reason to respect your opinions.

          • I just read your comment on the other article about the restaurant where your daughter works. I understand your perspective better now, therefore, I have a greater respect for your opinion. But I still have to point out that for little more than minimum wage plus benefits and overhead, a full-time armed guard could easily eat up the profit margin of any small business, even the franchise of a major chain restaurant like Carl’s Jr.

            Every business has to weigh risk vs. expense. The business might have robbery insurance — I’m not sure if there is such a thing, I would imagine there is. Even for a bank, the average hold-up nets something like $3k-$5k I believe, and the vast majority of them do not involve any shots fired. When it comes down to it, a low-paid armed guard would still not deter the most determined thugs. It wouldn’t deter a major holdup like they had in Hollywood in the 1990s.

            I wonder if in the future we’ll see businesses go to a credit/debit only model? Is it legal to refuse cash when it’s “legal tender?” Probably not, but it’s a concept worth testing in my opinion. Or someone could invent an electronic safebox that can make change not to exceed $19.99 for every $20 input, so all cash gets inserted directly into the safe and change is given, and there is no accessible register drawer to rob. That seems like the more reasonable option.

          • The truth is that carls jr has the money to pay for armed security or even an off duty cop if they wanted too. This is a multi million dollar business just like in n out or mcdonalds. The fact is that it is cheaper to get robbed than to pay 3000 plus for security a month. I am in the secuity business so i know how it works. I rather get robbed 900 dollars than to take a chance by having security n paying the security company 3000 every month for the next 2 years

  3. It’s Carls Jr. fault for not having an armed security guard in the restaurant. Gone are the days that you can rely on the goodness of people.

    Any fast food establishment or business in the A.V. must have security, otherwise they are just sitting duck’s.

    This is our new reality.

    • It’s not the restaurant’s fault that we now have a bunch of ghetto thugs terrorizing our town. Anywhere these people move they create problems. I think its part of their inborn nature at this point.

        • Calling someone a “racist” is a desperate, old and tired tactic and is only something people do when they are losing an argument or on the cusp of losing one.

          All you need to do is look at this very news site to know what everyone is taking about. Go and look at the archives for each section above. Under “education” there are a total of 3 archived pages…Now go look under “Crime” and there are 17!!!!!!!!

          The majority (75% or more) of them are articles on black thugs robbing, stealing, breaking in, invading homes, burglary, petty theft, you name it!

          There are also white criminals and Hispanic criminals mentioned, but nowhere near the number of black criminals that have been featured. I have to at least give it to the AV Times for being honest.

          I totally understand how embarassing it must be for the black community, for “Greta” “letlow” and all of the other apologists who frequent this site.

          There’s no “egg on your face” for anyone here, except maybe you apologists who know the truth in your hearts but refuse to believe it because its very painful.

      • The restaurant is responsible because they are the ones doing business.
        You can’t really expect to have cash around without someone there protect it, not to mention the safety of the customers.
        If your too cheap to hire security you pretty much got this coming.

        • I didn’t hear anyone support the Aurora shooter, in fact, most people were pissed that doctors and officials did not act sooner in reporting his dangerous mentality.

          Actually, if you read articles regarding the sexual predators in the Catholic church, you would see that most races seem to be pretty well represented by sickness in that one. Same goes for outside of the Church in Southern California as well. Even the Uniform Crime Report shows a clear indication that, per percentage of the population, male blacks are at a higher disposition to commit crimes.

          One would assume an area with 20% blacks would have only criminals be made up of about 20% of the crime statistics, but it is usually closer to 30% or 40%, higher in certain areas. The black community, instead of making it an issue to correct, usually blames outside factors (i.e. It’s the deputies fault for arresting them, or that the DA files more against, or other bogus bs.) Yet as science and as algorithms get more accurate with more information, it is becoming harder to ignore or blame those “The Man is putting us down” factors.

          If you watch anything regarding the local community, every time a black male is shot, or arrested, you see dozens of “activists” come out of the wood work and claim that everyone is putting them down.

          I want justice for all, I want criminals of all races and groups prosecuted. I will not defend someone just because the color of their skin is the same as mine.

I happen to live a few streets away from where it happened and had a sheriff stop in front of my house asking if I saw a black male, possibly 2 males running down the street early to mid 20’s…….
