Pair must stand trial in stabbing death of informant

PALMDALE – A Fruit Town Piru Bloods member and a Rollin 60s Crips member stabbed a fellow gang member at least 15 times in the torso for “snitching” on gang activities, according to court testimony.

The testimony came at a preliminary hearing Monday for Alfred Lee Crowder, 36, and Jonathan Duke, 23.

Both men are charged with the Oct. 17 stabbing death of 26-year-old Victor Miguel Enriquez. Enriquez was found on the ground, with multiple stab wounds to the torso, in the parking lot of the Sonoma Apartment Homes in the 38500 Block of 11th Street East in Palmdale.

Crowder, who goes by the street name “Big Dog”, is a member of the Fruit Town Piru Bloods; while Duke, who goes by the street name “Monster”, is a member of the Rollin 60s Crips, according to testimony from sheriff’s detectives Brandt House and Daniel Welle.

House said Enriquez, who is also a member of the Rollin 60s Crips, had been supplying information to the sheriff’s department.

In one instance, Enriquez told detectives about a “drug house” that was run by gang members, and then Enriquez purchased drugs from the house right before it was raided, House said.

Since deputies raided the drug house almost immediately after Enriquez made his purchase, gang members may have suspected that Enriquez was the one who tipped off police, House testified.

“Sounds like the [Rollin] 60s served up their own guy who was a snitch… Instead of an ongoing war, they solved the problem,” testified Welle, when given the hypothetical scenario by prosecutors.

“I’ve had numerous cases where Bloods and Crips are committing crimes together,” Welle said, when asked why members of rival gangs would be working together.

An eyewitness to the murder also testified at Monday’s preliminary hearing.

Terrance Dorsey testified that he had been hanging out with Enriquez near the Sonoma Apartment Homes, when he left briefly to walk his girlfriend home. Dorsey testified that when he returned, Enriquez was still alive and having an altercation with someone else in front of the apartment complex on 11th Street east.

Enriquez, 26, was found stabbed to death on Oct. 17 in this back parking lot of the Sonoma Apartment Homes in Palmdale.

Dorsey said he walked his friend through the apartment complex and was “basically shoulder to shoulder” with Enriquez when the attack began at the sally port gate near the laundry room.

Dorsey identified Crowder as the man who stabbed Enriquez with what appeared to be an eight inch stainless steel butcher knife. He said he did not see Duke do anything because he took off running immediately when the stabbing began.

Another eyewitness named Kenny Thomas told detectives he was walking on 10th Place East when he heard Enriquez yelling and then saw two suspects stabbing Enriquez in the parking lot, detective House testified.

“He said the two persons he saw were ‘Dog’ and ‘Monster,’” House said about the eyewitness.

When the eyewitness was shown photos, he told detectives he didn’t want to go to court, recanted his statements and said he made the whole thing up, House testified.

House also testified that the attack against Enriquez began in the sally port gate of the Sonoma Apartment Homes and continued for about 30 feet into the back parking lot on 10th Place East where Enriquez was found on the ground.

Witnesses told detectives that one suspect escaped in a compact blue car driving westbound on 10th Place East, while the other suspect ran westbound into some duplexes, House testified.

Enriquez suffered at least 15 stab wounds to the torso during the attack, House said.

Superior Court Judge Christopher Estes ruled Monday that there was enough evidence for Duke and Crowder to face trial. Duke was remanded on $1,050,000 bail, while Crowder was jail on $1 million bail. Both are due back in court on Dec. 5 for a second arraignment.

Sikntired I dont know why they wont put a reply button under your comments to me and I guess that means even the AV Times knows I shouldn’t be wasting my time with you but I am going to answer this one question for you and other inquiring minds and don’t ask me anything else. Duke actually got the name Monster over a decade ago when he was in the 8th grade at armagosa middle school(leading 60’s crip recruiting spot) when a older boy who had unnecessary muscles on his body was terrorizing the other eight graders, one night at a AV Marauders football game this mini Arnold Schwarzenegger approached Duke and a few of his little friends and you know what Sikntired Duke was Sikntired and he knocked a few of them muscles off of this terrorist and sent him on his merry way hence the name Monster was born,Duke has always been abnormally strong even as a young kid playing youth football with kids two years older than him he was the captain of the team and their star player kids on his team were afraid to go heads up with him in drills and many would even cry if that experience should befall them so if you were to ask any of his old team mates they would tell you that the name monster was appropriate,it was my hopes that he would go to USC and help them tighten up their defense but he chose to wrestle with 130 to 140 bull mastiffs before all this happened he was running a kennel with some of the most beautiful dogs in Southern Cal which he is in the process of losing cause it’s kinda hard for someone to step in and deal with 100 pound dogs you don’t know,and you know hypothetically speaking I guess you could have a full time job plus run a kennel and participate in the activities required to be a rolling 60’s crip as well but again thats just hypothetically speaking but that was a good question Sikntired and you know what, I am going to give you a pass, as long as your questions directed at me are legitimate I will give you a reply but get your reply button fixed. By the way is Sikntired your gang moniker a person who goes by the name Sikntired sounds like their on the edge and not to be messed wit (just kidding)but how did you come up with such a name,I am sure there are quite a few stories for that one.

    • Don’t have any control over the reply button, Juan, I am as puzzled as you about why some posts have them and others do.Maybe just the primary post and first 2 answers have them but I do not discern a steady pattern there.Thank you for the answer and sorry to hear how that name came about.Life is not easy for a lot of kids these days, that is for sure.Any idea how we can fix that?

      • Thats just it the paper doesn’t tell you they checked Dukes hands and body and he had absolutely no cuts scrapes or bruises on him whatsoever and you know if you are fighting close up for your life there probably isn’t going to be a knife long enough to keep you from coming away with some kind of skin under your nails or something,now I am going to share a little insight with you, that you might find interesting, I have the police reports, I have heard the testimonies and if I was a juror I see more evidence against the main witness than I do even against the Crowder guy, I know the Crowder guy has a long record but in this particular case he is only in Jail because of what the DA witness is saying, I am not taking up for Crowder cause he did have a fresh bruise on his leg and from what it sounds like is he has been in some bad stuff in the past but if we are talking about this case I don’t see it yet. This witness is a real slithery individual with alot going against him, a blind man could see it but at this point the DA has tunnel vision all they have to do is look down it’s right at their feet, if I had more time I would go over there and help them solve a few of their open cases, cause you know what, justice is not served unless you find the actual person that committed the crime I am not going to give you all the details just yet but man this is going to turn out to be a thriller. Mr or Mrs Letlow, thanks for the info on preliminary hearings and I had been told something similar but a preliminary hearing is suppose to be to see if there is enough evidence against you to even have a trial and all I was saying is that there was no factual evidence displayed against Mr Duke and there was no witness to state Duke was involved with the murder, which equates to nothing at all to keep him in jail,but I feel my attorney did a piss poor job at exploiting the obvious things like I DIDN’T SEE HIM DO ANYTHING and THE WHOLE STORY WAS MADE UP, but I understand we’re in a recession and the attorneys need that extra 20 to 50 thousand to take it to trial cause they only get a measly 10 to 20 k up until the prelims, this is a beautiful system, the attorneys get paid, the bail people get paid the county makes 200 dollars everytime they transport a person in custody thats why they keep moving Duke from wayside to mens central back and forth to the reception center plus they get paid for everyday he is there, I am sure they must be very careful not to fall under the recommended quota, Duke is 23 and I am sure that with a little study could probably pass the bar right now but that is not allowed you must first go to the law school of your choice for three years obtain a huge amount of debt just to learn very little that will actually help you in real world situations, but thats ok after Duke gets out of this and he pays another 3 or 4 grand to get this crap off his record maybe he will go ahead and go to USC and come back to the antelope valley to work, (just kidding, he would probably have too many people going home at the prelims that might mess up the quota)and you know I was thinking about investing some money into this privatizing the prison thing I know the return on investment has to be amazing,when you can take a inmate and let him take your flight info with your secure credit card and pay him 40 cents a day and then bust whoever he gives the credit card info to as well WOW!!!!!!! what a wonderful business how could you loose,does anyone know where I can sign up.

This is really sad, this whole article should be about crooked cops, incompetent deputies,a horrible DA and a robot as the judge,(Hold up before ya’ll get out your sheets and hoods )I will explain!!!!!!! Incompetent Deputies: When Duke came up to the police station to find out why they had a warrant for him the deputies noticed that he was driving a green Chevy blazer, the same green Chevy blazer that the witnesses said he was driving.GUESS WHAT!!!!! there was never a green Chevy blazer mentioned by anyone, it was a green Chevy caprice and it was the other guys car which has nothing to do with Duke.2 Crooked Cops:cop said Duke told him he was a rolling sixties crip before he was read his Miranda rights, why in the hell would a 23 year old kid with no criminal record whatsoever,come up and just offer that kind of info (please spare me)by the way this is the evidence that makes him the 6o’s cripp that they need to go with their hypothetical story..Pitiful DA:in this case the DA has not produced one factual piece of evidence everything he used in court yesterday was based on all hypothetical situations, no real evidence this guy is watching way too much TV, he has 15 other witnesses that have not mentioned Duke or even a story similar to the one this particular crackhead witness they insist on using to implicate Duke and even with this star witness they are using out of his own mouth he said “I DIDN’T SEE DUKE DO ANYTHING” I don’t know how much clearer do you need to be!!!!! Robot Judge: They really should replace this guy with a computer and save the county of LA some money, cause a computer could do the exact same job, The DA produced NO EVIDENCE against Duke and their witness said he did not see Duke do anything their other witness said he made the whole thing up and he did because if the facts were revealed to the public you would see that his story was impossible base on the facts so with it being no factual evidence no favorable witnesses how does an honorable judge find enough evidence to move forward, I guess all you need nowdays to ruin someones life is a few crooked cops a incompetent DA and a judge that goes off of hypothetical situations, WOW!!!!!!! what is really going on.

          • I can’t speak for the others,but I think you articulated your point and there was nothing illiterate about it.

            But you should know that the threshold is extremely low at a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors only need to show probable cause. And if there is at least one eyewitness (no matter how shady that witness might be) coupled with a motive, then the case most likely moves on.

            If the case is as shaky as you claim, then it will fall apart at trial. But it is extremely rare for cases to be dismissed at prelim in the AV courthouse, so don’t get too worked up about it.

        • Frank I am going to send up a special prayer for you tonight and ask God to touch your mind and save your soul, just imagine you waking up tomorrow and police are at your door talking about we have a warrant for your arrest,and you know you were in all night with ya girl but that not what the crackheads across town are saying, and that is the evidence they are using to have you in jail on over 1 million in bail, the way it looks it could happen to you especially with a last name like Rizzo I don’t know if there are very many Rizzo’s that have infiltrated the hooded society yet.

          • I must clarify myself on the last post, what I meant was something like this could happen to anyone the way things are going nowdays,Duke did not have a record and was not someone who was on the wrong side of the law, but if you somehow get caught up in the system everyone will automatically believe what they read and hear, and with the media so thirsty for blood you might see anything in the papers, hope this kinda thing never happens to anyone reading this post cause it is one hell of a nightmare.

      • I would bet that anything he may or may not have told Authorities was not supposed to come back on him. If he had turned into such a “great guy” and “good family man”, I doubt that he would have put his family in that knowing his name was gonna come out. I am not doubting that he was trying to turn his life around, it doesn’t happen overnight.
        One of the many problems I have :) with this is the kids. The kids grow up with “no light in their eyes” OR all the light in the world….and they learn to scam everyone and anyone who is nice to them. Momma’s make is clear that what happens at home stays at home and they are taught to not trust anyone outside their gang/family. The Circle of Life.
        As far as me going to church….I may or may not attend. One thing for sure is, I don’t praise God out of one side of my mouth and scheme out of the other.

  14. This right here is what makes it very difficult for the sheriffs to get info. from people. Couldn’t they have protected their informant a little better?

    Victor might not be a saint, but he was most likely a valuable resource for dropping dimes on gang members. Protecting him could have ensured more busts and takedowns.

    That’s probably why this Kenny Thomas is now clamming up, lest he end up in a body bag like Victor. Bad situation all around!

    • I agree. I was mostly disgusted by how the sheriff’s did the bust right after the buy. They should have known better. This is exactly why I warn people not to work with law enforcement. They are promised they will be protected or confidential or even get “better deals” for their cases, but the reality is they are often revealed through this form of investigating. Also sheriffs who grew up in the valley leak things to their friends on the streets who are often connected to gangs. I learned this when a gang cop testified about this happening in a trial about gangs. He said the sheriffs went to high school with gang members and the information on investigations in Lancaster get leaked to the gangs sometimes through the department.
