PALMDALE – For the second straight year, Palmdale’s Parking Enforcement Division staffers will be out in force now through Dec. 24 issuing “Good Parking Tickets” to motorists who display good parking habits.
“We tried this last year and the response from our residents was overwhelmingly positive,” said Palmdale’s Parking Enforcement Supervisor Dulce Gomez. “It’s so easy to get stressed out during the holiday season, and with all the crowds out there shopping, it can make relatively simple things like finding a good parking space frustrating. So, keeping with the ‘holiday spirit,’ it’s important that people demonstrate courtesy and make the right choices when it comes to parking. Our ‘Good Parking Tickets’ let them know that their good actions are seen and appreciated.”
In addition to the “Good Parking Tickets,” those “cited” will receive a gift such as gift cards from The Yard House and gift baskets from The Body Shop.
All “good parkers” will be entered into a drawing to win one of five annual parking passes from Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, valued at $450, and which covers the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy area, including several beaches.
“All of us like to be acknowledged for doing something right,” added Gomez. “The ‘Good Parking Ticket’ program is a nice way to make people feel good about making their community safer, especially during the holidays. It’s also a great reminder to always park and drive safely.”
“Our Parking Enforcement Officers will continue to patrol the city as part of our usual daily routines,” said Gomez. “However, we are hoping to give out more ‘Good Parking Tickets’ and gift cards than violations.”

I wish they could investigate the use of handicapped parking permits. Sure alot of people with those things hanging on their mirrors and on their plates in this town.
Some people got them because they were having to drive an aging parent around and I understand that, to a degree. I don’t understand why the state keeps renewing the permit when the parent has been deceased for 5+ yrs.
A woman I know of, is so high from her morphine pump and has a handicapped plate and worse horror…still drives to the fast food place at night. She’s so messed up she forgets to turn on her lights and leaves her garage door open all night. She can’t even have a conversation. Point being, not only should the plate not be approved, her license should not be renewed.

Really? Don’t these people have real jobs?

Why are you slamming something positive? Is it not at all possible that they can issue the “good” tickets while performing their regular duties?
Lighten up!

I don’t need a “good parking ticket” to know basic courtesy. A couple weeks ago at Target, there was a car already coming up the row when I could’ve swiped the spot. I waved her in, went down and around, and parked in the next row. As I was walking into the store, she was getting a baby (not a 4-y.o. “baby,” an infant carrier) out of her car and thanked me. I said “no, you were there first, and I’ve been there before,” referring to the baby. That’s just common courtesy, something that CA drivers in general — NOT just the AV by any means — lack in general.

Dear Bob:
Thank you for your post. First of all, the City of Palmdale is not bankrupt. We have a healthy 9.6 percent reserve and Grade A bond ratings. No junk bonds here.
Second, those gifts were graciously donated by the Yard House, The Body Shop and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority. We appreciate their generosity as we are able to make some people’s days a little brighter with a “Good Parking” ticket.
Happy Holidays!

This is so stupid, rewarding people and wasting tax payers money for doing what’s supposed to be done. No wonder the city is bankrupt

The Council meeting should be fun tonight. Ol’ Rex replaced Ron as the vice-mayor. It will be interesting to see the smirks gone off their faces.
