Man shot to death in Palmdale Sunday

PALMDALE – A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning (Dec. 30) in east Palmdale, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 4:11 a.m. in the 1700 Block of Avenue R3, according a news release by the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

The man, who appears to be a Black male, was found lying on the sidewalk. Several bullet casings littered the street near the man’s body.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending next of kin notification, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Witnesses at the scene said two men were shot and one of them died in route to the hospital, but this information was not confirmed with homicide detectives.

Homicide detectives are still investigating at the scene and are releasing little details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

UPDATED 12/31/12 at 7:30 pm:

As of 7 p.m., Monday, authorities were still not releasing the name of the victim because no next of kin had been notified, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Our sources tell us the shooting happened closer to 2 a.m., not 4 a.m., as we initially reported using the information in the sheriff’s press release.  According to a Palmdale Station broadcast on the night of the shooting, the Palmdale Station received the call around 2:17 a.m.; but deputies initially went to the wrong location.

When deputies arrived at the correct location, in the 1700 Block of Avenue R-3, they found an adult black male lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Minutes later, deputies discovered another gunshot victim at a nearby residence, according to the Palmdale Station broadcast.

It is unclear whether both shootings are related; however, our sources say both men were shot in the same location.

The second victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment.

UPDATED 1/1/12 at 8:30 am: The shooting victim has been identified in other media as 22-year-old Palmdale resident James Nabors.

I’m still shocked about the situation and still can’t believe it but have to face the fact that is true….. Race has nothing to do with killing of innocent persons,Whites commit mass murders and commit every crime under the sun.You know who causes the least crime in the USA is Asian people and Iam half white and half spanish and from what I see,Its the whites,blacks,and browns that are causing the problems here in America.So I included both of my races,now what.If you obey the law and dont try to hurt the innocent,you hopefully will be ok.Ive found that if you stereotype any race,that within a short time you will see the good in any race as long as you dont walk around with your eyes closed and being a stupid racist.If you have reason and start to get down on a race,I found that all the sudden Iam in front of some of the best people that ive ever been around of that race ever.Its the way Ive realized that there are good and bad persons in every race,no matter what.

Nita we pray for your hurt at this time,but you must understand how this strikes a nerve with “us” regular tax payers.We see the violence on the news daily where we are numb,but when you see this first hand and how it affects the other side of the coin “the good people” and we are SICK of GANGS.I feel sorry for these young men who most likely needed a dad in there lives so they take that hurt and resentment and join a gang where they think people care about them,and that is truly sad to the core.I feel sorry for the parents if they really did try to do a good job a raising there child.Music nowadays is a huge part of the problems (rap),but people say its entertainment but its making a single file line right to hell.

The site where this person was killed the candles talk about the bloods gang “go bloods go bloods”,also there is a letter addressed to a prison on the cement as well.Cops love to see a dead gang member on the ground,it make there job easier,so please keep taking each other out for us law abiding tax payers and God help us innocent tax payers to stay out of the cross fire.

            Because last week, a bunch of people were on here saying we should blame psychiatric drugs instead of the killer for the Newtown massacre.

            When I made the comment that the the killer was “pure evil” I was struck down.

            Funny how the blame only applies when it’s an “urban” killing. Or people blame rap music for violence, but fail to mention the death, violence and Satan worshiping in rock n’ roll. LOL! Hypocrisy at it’s finest.

          • Adam Lanza was pure evil and anyone who kills innocent persons for any reason is in need of death.Now that being said why isnt a gang member pure evil if he is going around and victimizing innocent persons for person gain,and will kill to Come up and not have to put in an honest days work.These gang members are trying to live like rap stars by robbing for there come up,then getting a fat amount of drugs to sell and come up,and then when the party rap star life is up,(there broke,no more drugs to sell)they go and rob,rape,or kill to get what they want.So what goes around comes around,most of the time karma works it way into everybodys life.

            I agree with you 1000% on Adam Lanza and gang members that fit the profile you described.

            But other posters on here will beg to differ on the Adam Lanza front. They make excuses for Adam Lanza and blame his behavior on “psyciatric drugs.” AS IF….

            Remember, no where in the story does it say the shooting was done by a gang member. We don’t even know who got killed. I will wait for the facts before I rush to that judgement.

      • Iam sorry for not wording or voicing my thoughts in a different way.I feel horrible and want to say I was wrong.I try to be a good bible reading person,but I need to be better than this,I really feel bad.I have been personally affected by gang violence,and it still hurts.I was angry and spoke in a way that Iam not proud of and its been on my mind,alot.Iam sorry again and I have learned alot from this,that my thoughts need to be corrected.I hope and pray this and hope that people that read from this learn a lesson as well,to be more sensitive to others in times such as these.Iam sorry Nita.

      • First off you are not cops,at best you are a cop.I have spoken personally with different law enforcement officers and non have said how the wish a gang member wouldnt have died.But they do tell me stories that have stuck with me and they stick with them and they involve innocent,law abiding persons.So chew on that son.Iam not going to put my future on the line for a gang member,go to help a gang member in front of my house and my kids dont have a dad,also you have to worry about your loved ones if you get killed,they may be vicimized by the same gang member you went to help!You are an idiot and most likely a single moron.If my family is inside the house,you and everybody else can choke.

        • I am so glad that I don’t live next door to Jeffrey Dalhmer, Adam Lanza, the one that shot all those people at the movies, the mall, the post office, the one that shot the firefighters in New York, the one that went into the police station and shot those cops,the one that may stay next door to you, that you have no idea about, in there beating his wife, killing for insurance money, I mean I can go on and on. Those are the one’s that scare the hell out of me. I do not condone gang violence in any shape, form or fashion. But at least I can see them for who they are and take precautions. Tell me which one of them would you have suspected were searial killers? Seems like when it is a mass shooting, the excuse is always “that person must have mental problems, not evil”! Any time an African American is killed, the 1st thing I hear most other races say it that they must have been in a gang. I am a mother and I know that any mother who has lost her child would not take kindly to someone saying that’s what their child gets and they deserve to die. I would not wish that pain on anyone. I never understand how people can become so joyful over another human being dying! Granted there are some that it’s hard not to feel that way, I get it. But I will never rejoice in another who has lost their life. I don’t know what kind of heart you have.

I’ll go out on a limb and predict the deceased male wouldn’t have been able to legally possess a gun anyway.If I’m wrong, and this was a person up early leaving for work, then I’ll eat my words.         • He was a good kid, he was still playing cops and robbers at 16y/o. He died over a high school incident that happened in 08. He used to come over for my butter burgers.
