ACTON— A 32-year-old man died Friday afternoon, less than an hour after he was pinned between a car and several haystacks at an Acton feed store, authorities said.
The fatal collision happened around 12:15 p.m. Friday at Fox Hay Feed & Grain, at 3542 Gillespie Avenue in Acton, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Clemente Delgado of Acton was walking towards a hay loading area, as 71-year-old Betty Marks was backing her 2005 Mercedes Benz into that same area, according to the CHP report.
The Mercedes Benz struck Delgado and pinned him against multiple stacks of hay, the CHP report states.
Bystanders administered CPR on Delgado until emergency medical personnel arrived and took over the CPR efforts. Then Delgado was transported to Palmdale Regional Medical Center, where he died around 1:03 p.m. of blunt force trauma to the head and torso, the CHP report states.
Marks was not arrested in the incident and driving under the influence is not being considered a factor, CHP officials said.
The incident remains under investigation.

and i do agree justice will come. And hope something is done to this lady driving and killing innocent people. this lady needs to never ever drive a day in her life again. she left 3 children without a father and a great wife behind…

I agree with you 150%. What a tragic loss for your family. I’m so sorry you have to go through this marathon of emotional grief. Lil’ol lady should never be allowed behind the steering wheel of another motor vehicle for the remainder of her life. Period.
Michael O'Brien says
Our prayers go out to the Delgado family. Clemente was the nicest employee at Fox Feed. I looked forward to seeing his smiling face every week when I picked up my hay. What a great guy! He will be missed so much.
Karen O'Reilly says
What a terrible loss. We shop regularly at Fox and they deliver hay to our place. All their folks are so nice, friendly and helpful. Please, more comments in support of Clemente’s family and less anger about the driver’s age!!
Yo Mama says
It’s simple: If you’re over 70, and you kill someone with your car, you’re done driving in this state. You’re license should be revolked on the spot never to be returned to you. But, the DMV won’t do that because it needs all the revenue it can get. It’s all about minimal requirements, and you get a license to drive in this state, no matter your age, race, creed, color, vision or citizenship. Just drive! We’re sorry if you kill people. Just drive!!

Hows about at any age if you kill someone with your car your done, including all the Dui ‘s who get a slap on the wrist. That’s what I’m talking about.

I’m down!!!

I know a young woman whose Father knew the deceased man.. Apparently the woman thought she was stepping on the brake, but stepped on the gas pedal accidentally instead…May he R.I.P.

I’ll be devil’s advocate and point out that 71 is not THAT elderly. I believe the farmer’s market geezer was in his mid-to-upper 80s. Most 71-y.o.’s still have their faculties about them.
Raptorman says
Whenever you hear of a car being parked and blowing through store fronts, it’s almost always an elderly woman. Elderly men tend to run over things. And I’m an old fart so you other geezers don’t get your knickers in a knot.
am bamboozled says
Haha,I too could be a geezer but my knickers aren’t in a knot. I do believe it was a man who drove thru the open market in Santa.Monica and it most certainly was.a man who drove into the lobby of the hospital I.worked
Young motorists pay more for insurance for a reason, more accidents .All the insurance companies care about is money and young drivers cost them more of it.
Knickers.are still not in a knot
am bamboozled says
It may be a case of ” I.drive a Mercedes,lookout ” Mercedes and BMW drivers.are some of the worst,IMHO.
Really? says
You can’t be serious with this comment? People who drive Mercedes and BMW (I don’t drive either one, btw) are some of the worst! You are so ignorant. Doesn’t matter what kind of car killed this poor man. So sad that you think so!!!
Bob says
Wow, she must have been flooring it backwards to hit him hard enough to have him slam his head into her car before he got pinned.
It’s time for AARP to back off and let our elderly be regularly tested to insure we have safe elderly motorists.
am bamboozled says
As well as safe younger motorists, Bobby.
Bob says
A lot of the vehicle codes on the books are geared against younger drivers, very few are aimed at the elderly.
sikntired says
Could you clarify that statement please?
Bob says
Laws regarding texting, alcohol limits (for those under 21), so on and so forth. You do not see any of those measures apply to elderly drivers, and the ones that should (driving while medicated[dui], legally blind, etc) are not enforced like the ones for young drivers.
The reason why young drivers were targeted is simply because there are more of them, more of them means more accidents by them.
Elderly people drop off as their age increases, less of them, less accidents, they are not the least likely to get into an accident however.
“In 2009, 5,288 people age 65 and older were killed and 187,000 were injured in traffic crashes. They accounted for 16 percent of all traffic deaths and 8 percent of the injured, but they accounted for 13 percent of the population, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The TRIP report said the number of deaths among drivers age 65 and older grew to 5,750 in 2010 even as NHTSA’s data showed that overall traffic deaths hit a record low.”

am bamboozled says
Now I am bamboozled; laws regarding dui and texting are not age specific.what are you talking about?
Bob says
There are age specific driving laws V C Section 13202.5 is specifically aimed at people under 21.
When was the last time a 71 year old sent a text? Texting is more prominent with people under the age of 25.

sikntired says
Actually Bob, I agree there should be more testing, maybe every ten years for everybody.Yes, there are some older drivers who are losing their abilities and that needs to be addressed.DMV does vision checks on renewal.
AARP has a class in which these things are addressed, mobility and vision, positioning of mirrors, larger rearview mirrors, driving a car with better visibility, risky situations, etc.Actually all drivers would benefit from this class.
The DUI issue is different for under twenty one because it is illegal to use and buy, so there is an added crime.
As far as I know, any elderly driver under the influence is held accountable.
…and the last time I sent a text was yesterday.Any old geezer will tell you it saves minutes, just don’t do it while driving and having four friends talking and listening to loud music.
Gotta go, need to hop on the John Deere and hope I don’t run into the hammock.
