LANCASTER – The City of Lancaster’s Corporate Challenge sprinted to success this past Saturday (April 6) with more than 180 attendees at its first day of activities. Kicking off the day was an energetic 5k run, followed by a 1K children’s run.
“It is always a pleasure to see local organizations cooperate in pursuit of a common goal, which in this case happens to be their own members’ health and wellbeing,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “The additional benefit of the networking that takes place at these events is the strengthening of community ties.”
The Lancaster Corporate Challenge, organized by the City staff Wellness Committee, is a series of athletic competitions open to members of local organizations and businesses, with the goal of promoting an atmosphere of healthy living and working in the City of Lancaster.
Inspired by similar programs run by the City of Las Vegas and the City of Ventura, the Challenge offers multiple sporting events April through June. This month’s activities will continue with a softball tournament on April 29.
The Corporate Challenge activities in May include a basketball tournament on May 4, and a bowling tournament on May 18.
In June, the Challenge will pick up with a golf tournament on the first of the month, continue with a horseshoes tournament on the 15, and conclude with Closing Ceremonies on June 22, culminating in a chili cook-off.
“I am pleased to see that our goal of fostering healthy competition throughout the City is being achieved to a level above what we had anticipated,” said Chair of the Wellness Committee, Beverly Glode. “To further that goal, we are extending the deadline to enter the remaining competitions so that more of our residents will have the opportunity to participate in this rewarding experience.”
Registration has now re-opened for participants who wish to compete in any or all of the remaining events of the Lancaster Corporate Challenge.
Registration for the Challenge will remain open until Wednesday, April 24 at 5 p.m. For details and to locate the registration documents, visit http://www.cityoflancasterca.org/lcc.
