LANCASTER – Gang detectives are investigating after a man was wounded during an apparent drive-by shooting in Lancaster Monday night (June 24).
The incident was reported around 8:26 p.m. in the 44400 Block of 3rd Street East, authorities said.
The victim, who was identified only as a man in his 20s, was shot in the leg, but his wound was not considered life-threatening, according to Lt. Wainie of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
The victim, along with a man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s, were walking down the street when a vehicle pulled up alongside them and someone in the vehicle open fired, Wainie said.
“We’re still figuring it out, but it appears to be a drive by,” Wainie said, adding that he did not have any further information on the incident.
The victim told deputies that someone in the vehicle asked him where he was from, and when he denied having any gang affiliations, a gunman in the vehicle began shooting, according to deputies at the scene.
The victim was transported to the hospital and was in stable condition Monday night. A description of the vehicle used in the shooting was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting comes one day after a gun-related double murder in Lancaster. Early Sunday morning, Lancaster residents Nicky DeWayne Packard, 33, and Michael Sewell Jr., 22, were gunned down in the 44800 Block of Hanstead Avenue in Lancaster. The victims were part of a group of men that had just left a party and were congregating in front of a house down the street, homicide detectives said. (Read more here.)
Authorities are still investigating both incidences and no arrests have been made, officials said.
Anyone with information on these crimes is urged to contact Lancaster Sheriff’s Station at 661-948-8466 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips (8477).

Crime is the number one reason our property value has been steadily going down [for the last 22 years] in Lancaster..Not just eastside Lancaster, but westside Lancaster as well. As crimnals and gang members keep moving to the Antelope Valley ,our property value will continue to decline. Our friends from Simi Valley have this joke. “Only in Lancaster, you can buy 3 homes for the price of one….
MelissaG says
That is so true. I had friends visit from out of state and they were shocked at what you can buy here in West Lancaster for less than $200K. It’s gross and I can hardly wait to gtfo.

Just the way it’s become here in the Antelope Valley, Ca…. doesn’t matter if it’s Lancaster, Palmdale, Littlerock, etc. Too many thugs carrying guns on them so I try my best not to piss anyone off. Mostly I stay home.
R.I.P. all those being murdered.
Yet, the joke is all on the residents since the party should have been stopped or at least checked out by the local sheriff.
Not long ago, we heard a woman pleading for her life, she was yelling for help, but we didn’t know where she was at. We called the sheriff, but never found out if someone was injured or murdered.

This is becoming quite the powder keg. If you add up the murders there are some significant issues that no one seems to be talking about. The young man gunned down in front of Coach’s, the young teen shot and killed at a party on East Avenue K, the double homicide this past sunday and now this drive by in the same area as sunday’s shootings. That’s 4 murders with the suspected shooters still loose out on our streets. If this community really wants to start to put things in our town on the right direction, those with informaton should come forward and get these killers off the streets before someone else dies. I also uinderstand that one of the men killed Sunday is somehow related to the young man killed near Coach’s. If the community and the Deputies don’t get these cases solved soon, Lancaster could easily find itself in the throws of a gang war. Now you will see Law Enforcement on edge, because they want to solve these cases but they also know that the people that are responsible are active and willing shooters. This town will start to have Chicago like issues if something isn’t done soon. Stop protecting these murderers cause someone you love could be next, whether they are targeted or simply innocent bystanders. I understand alot of people leave comments to vent or try to be funny or try to make race the stand alone issue, whatever your agenda, the focus needs to be bringing people to justice, getting these killers off the streets and protecting our citizens. all that other crap is just mindless rhetoric. it’s not safe out here and if something isn’t done soon we will all be living in a war zone run by these so called ganstas.

Neither one of them ever disrespected me in fact they referred to me as yes maam and no maam. Mike had abeautiful voice and he was one of the only students that I had that could hang with me in word search when we would race. I loved him very much.
