PALMDALE – The Palmdale City Library continues its summer reading program called “Reading is So Delicious” with two presentations of “Wonders of Wildlife” on Tuesday, July 9 at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Library.
“Come see live animals and artifacts used in this wildlife program,” said Palmdale Library Director Thomas Vose. “Discover what feeding times are like with carnivores, herbivores and omnivores while future potential zookeepers figure out who eats what with the ‘Wonders of Wildlife.”
Animals that will be at the Library include a rabbit, fox, opossum, monitor lizard, snake, and parrot.
More than 500 kids have signed up for the summer reading program. The program, which is free for kids up to 12 years old, is sponsored by the Friends of the Palmdale City Library, and runs through Aug. 10.
“The Summer Reading program also includes reading logs for children,” said Librarian Debbie Melin. “If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s not too late. Stop by the reference desk next time you are in the Library and pick up a log for your child. To encourage reading over the summer, kids will earn prizes for every five books they read. In addition, the Library will host a party at the end of the summer for those who participated.”
Other programs in the summer reading program include:
- “Midnight Feast,” in which kids can drop off their favorite doll or stuffed animal for an overnight stay at the library, Tuesday, July 23 from 10 am to 3 pm;
- “Midnight Feast, Part 2,” in which kids will pick up their doll or stuffed animal and get a free photo of what they did overnight, all day Wednesday, July 24; and
- “A Musical Feast with Craig Newton—End of Summer Party” on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 1 pm.
The Library will also host Preschool Story times on Tuesdays at 10 am, Wednesdays at 11 am, and Bilingual Story times on Fridays at 10 am, now through Aug. 10.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
