TEHACHAPI – A Palmdale teen driver and her passengers were injured early Wednesday morning when her vehicle drifted off the roadway and flipped over, ejecting one of the passengers, authorities said.
The single vehicle collision occured around 5:35 a.m., Wednesday on Tehachapi Willow Springs Road near Oak Creek Road, according to Officer Ed Smith, spokesperson for the California High Patrol’s Mojave Office.
Eighteen-year-old Melissa Mogollon was driving a 1993 Honda Civic, headed northbound on Tehachapi Willow Springs Road, when she allowed her vehicle to drift right onto the dirt shoulder, Smith said.
“Mogollon steered abruptly to the left and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle then overturned and one unrestrained, unseatbelted passenger was ejected from the vehicle,” Smith said.
The ejected passenger was identified as 34-year-old Luis Farfan of Palmdale. Another passenger, 52-year-old Daniel Clendenen of Palmdale, was also injured in the collision.
Mogollon and Clendenen sustained visible injuries and were taken by ambulance to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment, Smith said.
Farfan was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment, and further information on his condition was not immediately available Friday.
Neither alcohol nor speed appears to be factors in the collision, Smith said.
The crash is still under investigation.
