PALMDALE – A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed after crashing into a car in a Palmdale intersection Sunday morning.
Dennis Steven Coreas of Palmdale died at the scene of the collision, which occurred around 7:40 a.m. Sunday on Palmdale Boulevard and 15th Street East, authorities said.
Coreas was riding a 2007 Yamaha westbound on Palmdale Boulevard when he collided with a Ford Fiesta that pulled out in front of him, according to Deputy Anderson of the Palmdale Sheriff Station’s Traffic Unit.
The Ford’s 84-year-old driver was headed northbound on 15th Street East.
“He stopped at the stop sign, looked both ways, didn’t see anybody coming, proceeded to cross the intersection and was struck by the man on the motorcycle,” Anderson said.
Traffic in the area was blocked for about four hours as authorities investigated the collision.

Single-vehicle crash kills Lancaster man, alcohol suspected
LAKE HUGHES – A 47-year-old suspected DUI driver died Saturday night after his car ran off the road, crashed into a fence and a tree and then overturned, authorities said.
John E. Cubano of Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle collision, which occurred around 7:35 p.m. Saturday on Pine Canyon Road just east of Three Points Road in Lake Hughes, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Cubano was driving a 2000 VW Jetta westbound on Pine Canyon Road “while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and at an unsafe speed for the prevailing roadway,” the CHP report states.
Cubano crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic and then ran off the road onto the dirt shoulder. The Jetta crashed into a dirt embankment before careening into a chain link fence, crashing into a tree and overturning, according to the CHP report.
The Jetta came to rest on its driver, and Cubano sustained fatal injuries.
“Alcohol appears to be a factor in this collision and will be investigated further,” the CHP report states.

When I got off work I seen so many people on the corner of 15th. I see why now. RIP to this young man, this is such a tragedy. My prayers go out to his family and close friends. THE CITY of PALMDALE needs to fix hat intersection! There is no light or stop sign from 10th east to 17th east, and not only is there a college on 15th, there is a elementary school on 11th! The individuals who live between11th and 17th have to jay walk or walk blocks to a light to cross. During rush time hour palmdale blvb gets crowded and it is nearly impossible to pay attention to pedestrians and fellow drivers while trying to cross with your automobile at the same time. Again this is a tragic loss that breaks the communities heart, I really wish something could have been done before to prevent accidents like this. Rip.

Very tragic!!! My husband lost a good friend of his the exact same way. A lady stopped at the stop sign and then pulled right out in front of him. She said she thought it was a four way stop. So tragic when these great men are taken from their families. My condolences to all his loved ones!!
…. But also, and please don’t hate me for saying this, I’m sure that old man is probably grieving also for taking this young life. It’s not his fault that there aren’t stricter laws in place. He was driving because legally it was okay. I’m sure he is being harder on himself right now than any of us could be on him.
I am so sorry to everyone who is feeling pain for this terrible accident. You all are in my prayers!!

Insurance companies a long time ago found that people don’t see vehicles like motorcycles because they are looking for cars. Post accedent interviews have shown this can even apply to semi-trucks.
It is common for the elderly to not see what they are not looking for and this also applies to distracted drivers.
Just remember, multitasking is a falacy that can cost a person their life because it is hard enough to look for EVERYTHING that is coming your way.

AFTER SO MANY NEAR MISSES AT THIS INTERSECTION IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT SOME ONE, A GOOD PERSON HAS LOST THEIR LIFE DUE TO A LACK OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL.
AT TIMES THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST TWO TRAFFIC COLLISIONS A WEEK AT THIS INTERSECTION. I THINK THIS IS THE TIME THAT OUR CITY OF PALMDALE OFFICIALS WILL FINALLY GET THE MESSAGE, THAT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL IS NEEDED. IF YOU REALLY CARE SEND YOUR PETITIONS NOW! GRANTED THE WHOLE BLVD BETWEEN SIERRA HIGHWAY AND 40th ST EAST NEEDS WORK, MAINLY SIDEWALKS AND STREET LIGHTS.
I THINK THATS THE REASON THAT PALMDALES’ CHRISTMAS DAY PARADE GOT MOVED FROM PALMDALE BLVD TO TECHNOLOGY DRIVE, I REMEMBER SEEING IT ON TIME WARNER CABLE NEWS CHANNEL OUR MAYOR LEDFORD WAVING TO THE CROWD AS THEY STOOD ON DIRT SIDEWALKS AT 12th EAST, IF I HAD BEEN HIM I TOO WOULD HAVE BEEN EMBARRASSED TO BE SEEN ON TV. BUT GOING BACK TO THIS TRAGEDY, MAY MR. DENNIS STEVEN COREAS REST IN PEACE!!
so true says
Terrible loss for all….that is a tough intersection to cross, don’t see why they don’t put in a light there or even a 4 way stop. During the day you can not cross safely.
Taxi Driver says
“Terrible loss for all….that is a tough intersection to cross”
I agree on both accounts.
There is a light at 17th St. and another at 10th St. There’s no reason that the streets between shouldn’t be blocked for through traffic, allowing for only right turns onto Palmdale Blvd when traveling from the north or south.
raptormann says
A light at 15th is way overdue.

Wow what a waste. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists’ risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car.

Our condolences to the family. This is so sad. I don’t want to know when my son is on his bike. God, please give this family strength to get through this sad time.
The elderly man may have had the sun in his eyes when he looked east. I do agree that people over 70 should have testing again. We know the rules of the road but our reflexes and eyes aren’t the same.
Also condolences to the other driver’s family. Please don’t drive if you’ve been drinking or high. You may think you’re ok, but you’re not.

This is so sad. My husband rides and has lost many friends to accidents where the other driver didn’t see the bike. While I hope to be able to drive when I’m elderly, I do think there should be mandatory testing, not just for vision but for reflexes as well past a certain age.

Who even said the old man has missed up vision? [removed]

The village idiot always has to make a comment. Dennis was going 40 miles an hour, the speed limit on Palmdale Blvd. On the way to work at 7am. The old man pulled onto the road in front of him and claimed he didn’t see Dennis. So yes, there was clearly an issue with the old man’s vision or his driving ability.
