PALMDALE – Distraught family members are asking for the public’s help in locating Martha “Marti” Myers, a 59-year-old Castaic woman last seen leaving her home on August 5.
Marti was driving a grey 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer with damage to the front fender from a previous accident. She may have been traveling along the 14 Freeway towards Palmdale on August 5, between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.
According to ABC 7, Marti called her roommate from Palmdale because her car had broken down. Her phone died and she hasn’t been seen or heard from since, ABC 7 reports.
“She is on medication that should be refilled and we have no way of knowing what’s going on because her phone is dead,” daughter Stephanie Berger posted on Facebook.
Marti is 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes, and weighs between 120 to 135 pounds. Her identifying marks include an orange cat tattoo on her lower leg and a small butterfly tattoo on her right shoulder blade.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Martha “Marti” Myers is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at 323.890.5504.
Concerned loved ones are in need of volunteers for search parties in the Santa Clarita and Palmdale areas. For updates on the search and to help with this effort, visit the “Find Marti Myers” Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FindMartiMyers.

Has there been any report on the cause of death? She was a former neighbor of mine. Just curious. We are wondering – those of us who new her in Saugus.
Carolyn Myers says
No, the cause of death will not be available from the coroner till December or even January.

Sadly, this woman was way out in the boonies. How did she get from Palmdale to California City if she had told her roommate that she had car problems? The killer has to know the area well. It’s dangerous to have car trouble when alone, and it doesn’t matter if you are male or female, young or old. I certainly do hope that they find the killer quickly cause he/she/they are still out there and who’s to say this won’t happen again. I don’t think she was capable of burying herself though and not like stated by Sammy P. Who the hey buries themselves one mile away from your vehicle. This is foul play and know the losers/murderers will be found.
Carolyn Myers says
No, there is no evidence of foul play. The official cause of death has not yet been determined, but foul play has been ruled out.

Maybe a new system called Marti Alert would help locate missing people of a different age group.
Carolyn says
Senior citizens who are missing prompt a Silver Alert. I don’t know how old one has to be to qualify as a “senior” citizen.
Heather says
Did they find her car? And I second what Rooney asked. More info is needed..
Rooney says
Does the police dept. have any idea where she was when her phone died. I thought that her phone could be traced to an area. I live near in Palmdale and it would help to know; east side, middle, west side? We’ll watch out for her. Hope you find her.
sammy p says
what do they think happened??? abduction at gunpoint? wandered away due to mental issues? drove car off a mountain ledge?
Law enforcement or family must have some scenario they think is likely! If you want the public’s help, (and I understand you can’t tell every detail) at least give us what you think is most likely.
Carolyn says
I am family. And I can tell sammy p that we’ve thought of all those possibilities you mentioned. I’ve wondered if she sought help after her car broke down, and someone offered to help her, only to abduct her (not at gunpoint) and take her somewhere. Believe me, our minds are racing a mile a minute. Which scenario is most likely? We have no idea.
Heartbroken says
Was she coming to Palmdale for a specific reason? To go somewhere or visit someone?
sammy p says
there is too much information we just don’t know in order to play Junior Detective in this case.
But I will give it my best shot with the info available.
My theory-
An abductor would pull over to abduct, he would not be able to deal with a broken down car, (unless she was abducted by someone driving a tow truck) so I find that scenario very unlikely.
So I think she faked the phone call and faked the battery dying and just wanted to get away – remember- a turned off phone is the same as one with a dead battery. This explains why her car has not been found. Ya she has a few mental problems and takes medication but she still drives a car so she cant be THAT mental… I think she thought up a plan to get away, faked the phone call and dead battery. I could be wrong, but like I said, I am basing my theory on available info, and there is much info missing.
unanswered questions:
did she have a 12 volt phone charger in her car that plugged into cigarette lighter?
Is she the type who would go somewhere and let her phone die? Today’s phones hold a charge for a pretty long time….I would think someone taking a long road trip would make sure their phone is charged.
why does she live in castaic and have a roommate in palmdale? was she moving? why was she going there at all?? (I am sure there is an easy explanation for this, but the whole PALMDALE/CASTAIC thing was just never explained, and it needs to be- its SOOO important.)
what was going on in her life? Anything stressful?
If my theory is correct – something is going on behind the scenes that we are not privy to, and that caused her to want to abandon her old life…
Jill says
Sammy P. She was calling her Roommate FROM Palmdale
teresa says
Sammy..You probably should stay away from the junior detective business..lol. Your theory is unrealistic to say the least.
