As the parent of young children, I take great care in monitoring the types of entertainment which are allowed in my home. I am concerned about the increasing number of pornographic websites which masquerade as non-porn websites.
As such, I have created a White House petition asking President Obama to require all Internet Service Providers offer the option to block pornographic web content if users request it. If this petition receives at least 100,000 signatures, President Obama will respond to it.
Will you please share this petition, so we can reach the required number of signatures?

Here is the text from my petition.
Require ALL Internet providers offer the option to block pornographic content.
Over the past few decades, great technological advances have been made to give individuals (and more specifically parents) more tools to control the types of media that enter their homes. Smart chip technology has revolutionized television viewing as individuals can set the rating for content allowed in their homes. Unfortunately, this is unavailable for Internet users, despite the fact that the technology is available to block pornographic content.
It is time for Internet providers to offer this optional service. Those who wish to have pornographic content blocks will be able to call their service provider (or manage their account online) to turn on or off this block. The block will default to “OFF” so users must request it (eliminating censorship concerns).

I agree with “Internet Savvy”… Learn the tools available to you. Learn to use things like DansGuardian (free – requires admin skills), or OpenDNS (free – requires little skills), or various software available (at a cost – requiring no skills) for you to govern the availability of certain types of internet content.
What you are trying to do will just lead to the tel-com providers having an excuse to charge even more. It is YOUR job to protect your children. It is YOUR job to govern their internet usage. It is YOUR job to decide what is and what is not appropriate to expose your children to.
Stop asking the government to be your children’s parent.

There are many filtering programs out there that you can install. Several receive updated black lists daily or weekly for those sites that pop up. Trust me, you can do a better job than the internet provider can.
It would have also been nice if the .xxx and .porn had been allowed and all sites offering such services be forced to move to those TLDs.
