LANCASTER – Three teens were apprehended early this morning [Aug. 19] by sheriff’s department personnel assigned to Antelope Valley College following a theft from a vending machine near the California State University, Bakersfield-Antelope Valley campus.
Campus security officers on routine patrol about 12:30 a.m. spotted three suspects near a vending machine and tried to detain them, according to deputy Ramon Murgatroyd.
However, the suspects fled on foot to a nearby residential area near 30th Street West and Avenue J-9 where they were apprehended in the front yard of a home.
The suspects, ages 16 to 17, were found to be in possession of cash reportedly taken from the machine. They will face charges of theft and curfew violation. They were released to their guardian.
Anyone seeing suspicious activity on campus is urged to call the campus sheriff’s office at 661-722-6399 or ext. 4444 using a campus phone. The sheriff’s department staffs AVC 24 hours a day.

I wonder if these thieves are also responsible for the burglaries on the crime map, just released. Same neighborhood. Between J and K, 25th W and 30th W.

@ dumbandblind … I agree with you, and the so called guardian should be made to pay for all damages to the machines. A bag of chips today, a car tomorrow!!

Released to their guardian who probably told them what to do in the first place. The guardians should be detained as well for failing to raise them up as decent individuals.

Today’s vending machine thief is tomorrow’s home burglar and next week’s armed hold up. I say shame them straight by naming names and hopefully we can stop budding career criminals in their tracks.
