PALMDALE – Eight weeks of summer fun comes to a crescendoed conclusion tomorrow (Aug. 22) as the City of Palmdale celebrates its final Thursday Night on the Square (TNOTS) event for 2013.
The popular free summer festival, which runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Poncitlán Square (9th Street East between Avenue Q-9 & Q-10), features live music, food, free City activities for kids and an open-air market featuring specialty items.
Performing at the gazebo will be legendary Antelope Valley Latin rockers “Boulevard Knights.” The evening’s theme is “Monsterology,” where kids will be able to create monster feet and a regal crown to wear, and participate in a monsterous wild scavenger hunt.
Also, the winner of the Walk on Words Poetry Contest will be announced and the winning poem unveiled in concrete at the gazebo at 6:30 pm. Hosted by the City of Palmdale’s Public Art Committee, the inaugural “Walk on Words” poetry contest was open to all ages. Entrants were asked to submit original compositions no more than 12 lines long, including title, with a maximum of 35 characters per line, including spaces.
New this year to TNOTS is the NET (Neighborhood Engagement Tent) area where teens gather to listen to their music, enjoy karaoke and dance.
Other free entertainment and activities include:
- Live music in the gazebo until 8:30 p.m., sponsored by Valleywide Dental;
- The Game Garden featuring a variety of board games for all ages;
- The Children’s Art & Activity Center, open while supplies last;
- Camp TNOTS, featuring guest storytelling at 6:30 p.m. and interactive story telling at 7:30 p.m.; and
- The Children’s Art & Activity Center and Camp TNOTS (for children age 12 and under).
In addition to the music and activities, each week one lucky person caught “green-handed” – disposing of recyclable and nonrecyclable waste in the proper container – will win a solar-powered backpack, courtesy of Waste Management. Valued at $125, the backpack is capable of charging an mp3 player, cell phone, camera or laptop.
Pets are not permitted. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Alcohol is not allowed.

john Howard says
Why do you feel it necessary to soil a perfectly event by mentioning Parris? you have an unhealthy obsession ..really..
Sue Yoosoomi says
Maybe William is-as a Palmdale taxpayer-tired of having to pay for Parris’s stupid lawsuits. That moron sues Palmdale every chance he gets. I’m not sure who pays more though-the Lancaster taxpayer also has to pay for all the lawsuits that moron has brought upon them. The hole antelope Valley would be better off if Parris took up permanent residence in one of this other homes.
William says
Thank you, Sue. That’s exactly right. If Parris hadn’t been doing all that he has been doiing, I wouldn’t have anything to comment on.
It’s funny how Parris’s fans always go after the person criticizing him rather than addressing the actual criticism.
OT says
Funny, at least John realizes mentioning Rex’s name puts a damper on everything.
William says
Ah, yes. ‘rex’ has become a four-letter word.
sikntired says
Yeah but those Rex rabbits at the A.V..fair are pretty darn cute.Go figure.
sikntired says
Unhealthy obsession?Really? Let’s see, would that be similar to Parris’ obsession to screw with Palmdale?
William says
Watch Parris sue because of the name Boulevard (BLVD) Knights is being used in Palmdale.
You know how he is.
