PALMDALE – Cold weather did not dampen the spirits of foodies and wine lovers who flocked to the Taste of Palmdale Thursday night, organizers said.
“It was a little cold as Taste of Palmdale got started, but so many people came through right at the beginning that I could tell they were excited to get a taste of what the Antelope Valley had to offer for food, wine and entertainment,” said Jeff McElfresh, Chief Executive Officer for the Palmdale Chamber of Commerce.
The 6th Annual Taste of Palmdale was held from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Antelope Valley Mall.
“This was our first time at the AV Mall, and the space they have allowed us to open up the event and showcase each one of the restaurants and vendors,” McElfresh said. “We encouraged the restaurants to decorate their booths and they did.”
The event highlighted food from more than two dozen local restaurants, live blues and jazz music, displays from local artists and exhibits from local businesses and organizations. Three local business took home coveted Golden Spoon Awards.
And 2013 Golden Spoon Award winners are…
- Best Winery – Willow Springs Winery
- Best Restaurant – Fourteen Restaurant & Lounge
- Best Dessert – Yard House, Palmdale
In describing the night’s winners, McElfresh said, “Fourteen Restaurant defended their Golden Spoon award, winning again this year with what I believe was the best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had. Yard House won with their best dessert, a salted caramel butterscotch pudding that was fantastic. That pudding beat out last year’s Golden Spoon Award winner and a 2013 participant, Nadia Cakes.”
All in all, the event was a success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, despite the cold, organizers said.

Goes to show that the colder it gets, the better a grilled cheese sandwich becomes.
