LANCASTER – A free Tire Recycling Event is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Lancaster Maintenance Yard, located at 615 West Avenue H.
All Lancaster residents, as well as residents of the surrounding areas, are encouraged to turn in their used passenger car, truck or tractor tires during this free event.
In Los Angeles County alone, approximately 10 million waste tires are generated annually. Waste tires that are illegally dumped or improperly stored can pose a serious threat to public health and safety, as well as the environment. In addition, waste tires often serve as a nesting area for pests, as well as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which can spread encephalitis and other illnesses.
Things to keep in mind when participating in this Tire Recycling Event:
- You may bring up to nine tires without obtaining a hauling exemption.
- If you plan to bring more than nine tires, you must obtain a transport form from the Department of Public Health, by calling (626) 430-5540.
- Tires that will be accepted include all passenger car, truck and tractor tires; with or without rims.
- Tires that cannot be accepted include heavy equipment tires, tires with a diameter greater than 60 inches, roll-offs or dumpsters full of tires, and non-air-filled solid tires.
