PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s Neighborhood Services Department is giving away portable vehicle security systems to seven lucky winners who enter the drawing on the City’s Web site, www.cityofpalmdale.org, by Dec. 15.
The contest is open to Palmdale residents 18 years and older. Simply log onto www.cityofpalmdale.org and click on the link to enter the drawing.
Seven lucky winners will be selected on Dec. 16 and the winners will be notified by email.
Prizes must be picked up in person at the Neighborhood Services Department at 38250 Sierra Highway between December 16 and 19. Hours of pickup are 7:30 am to 6 pm.
The portable car security system is valued at $80.
“In addition to entering the drawing, residents can test their knowledge on vehicle security and download free information from the Sheriff’s department and the city to prevent becoming a victim of vehicle theft,” said Palmdale’s Crime Prevention Officer Ruth Oschmann.
“As the weather begins to change, vehicle thefts tend to rise,” said Deputy Eric Caplinger of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “Many of these thefts are attributed to vehicles left unattended and running in front of homes to warm up the interiors. Preventing the ‘warm up’ thefts alone will have an impact on the number of vehicles stolen in our community.”
“But why stop there?” asked Caplinger. “Why not make is as difficult as possible for a thief to steal your vehicle? Security devices such as the ones the City of Palmdale is giving away are excellent deterrents to car thieves.” [Read more auto theft prevention tips here.]
