LANCASTER – A 47-year-old man has been charged with two felony counts in connection with the death of his mother, who was found dead in her Lancaster home last week.
Shelton Bradley was charged Monday with murder and elder or dependent adult abuse resulting in death, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Bradley was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in an Antelope Valley courtroom Monday, but his arraignment was postponed until January 6.
The charges stem from the death of 73-year-old Lancaster resident Rosie Manuel.
The elderly woman was found dead in her kitchen around 6 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 19) in the 44000 block of Beech Avenue in Lancaster. Manuel’s older son made the discovery and contacted authorities, sheriff’s officials said.
Bradley, Manuel’s youngest son, was arrested for murder early Friday morning.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives have not disclosed what led them to arrest Bradley, and they are releasing little details because the matter is still under investigation.
Los Angeles County coroner’s officials examined Manuel’s body this past weekend, but have not yet determined her cause of death.
“Cause of death is deferred, it’s still pending additional tests,” said Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter.
Winter acknowledged that Manuel’s death was reported as a possible homicide, but he said lab and test results needed to determine her cause of death could take up to eight weeks. He said no further information on the case was available.
Bradley remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
