PALMDALE – The Palmdale Playhouse is offering performing arts classes for special needs individuals beginning this month.
“We are pleased to present this opportunity for developmentally challenged individuals to participate in the performing arts here at the Palmdale Playhouse,” said Recreation Supervisor Annie Pagliaro. “Participation in the performing arts has been proven to stimulate physical and mental capabilities, while providing social interaction and teamwork building.”
The first session will be held Thursdays from 6 to 7 pm from Jan. 16 through Feb. 20 at the Playhouse, located at 38334 10th St. East in Palmdale.
It is open for ages 12 through 20, and class will be limited to 10 participants. Caregivers must be present during the entire length of class.
The cost is $35. Registration is available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/playpalmdale.
The instructors will work with groups and individuals in a safe and supportive environment, according to their needs. The classes will culminate in a performance on the Palmdale Playhouse stage. The type and direction of the performance will be determined by the program participants themselves.
A second session will begin on March 6 and run through April 10.
