8-year-old girl killed in Palmdale crash

Fatal crash graphicPALMDALE – A driver was injured and her 8-year-old passenger was killed early Wednesday morning, when the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole, authorities said.

Jahzaree Gladden died at the scene of the collision, which occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Tierra Subida Avenue, just north of 5th Street West, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

“The preliminary facts of the investigation indicate a 2013 Hyundai Accent was north on Tierra Subida Avenue. The driver appeared to have fallen asleep and crossed the south bound lanes of traffic and collided into a power pole on the west side of Tierra Subida Avenue,” stated Detective B. Bunch of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

The 8-year-old girl was riding in the back seat, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by L.A. County Fire Department paramedics, Bunch stated.

The driver complained of pain and lacerations, and was transported to a local area hospital, Bunch stated.

Both driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts, and the airbags were deployed, according to Bunch. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Palmdale Station Traffic Detail.

  9. You know, I could be petty and vile and respond to some of the callous statements made here but I REFUSE to sully my niece’s memory! It’s obvious that those making the comments are perfect…beyond reproach…clairvoyant. The truth of the matter is, my Jahzzy knew more LOVE in her 8 years than most of these people will ever know in their ENTIRE lives. It’s OK, she would have loved them anyway. That’s how big her heart was.

Andrea is there for you as well and she too is heart broken about the lost of your sister. I will keep you and the family in prayers during this time.   13. I will miss Jahzaree so much. She will always be in my heart. Now she is in heaven and she will be our Guardian Angel. I have good memories of Jahzaree since we were in preschool. Mrs. Jacobson, me and the whole class will miss her so so much. ;( We will pray for the Gladden family. were sorry for your lost…

Jaz was a smart and sweet girl and I will always remember her as Ms. Cranberry in our school’s Thanksgiving play…The Young-MacMillan family.

  22. Our prayers go out to this family, may God comfort you thru this very sad time! Jahzaree will be missed by all her friends, Teachers and the Staff that she would bring her great smile to each day at Ocotillo Elem.
    She is now in the hands of her Hevenly Father, a Angel with wings to soar….
    She was remembered and Mourned today by all. So many tears were shed when the news was broken this morning, it was heartbreaking!

    Anyone wishing to help this family can call Ocotillo Elementry School to see if the school is doing anything for the family, no one is asking for donations at this point but as a community we can help this family with cards and support in a time that the family cannot comprehend what has happened or why…my prayers to all.

    • Yes it is sad and don’t make more of it than it is. You’ll just get a bunch of mean spirited people on here now. The driver is going to suffer enough. Let it be!

      • For those quick to pass judgement, and we all do it at times throughout our lives, they were returning home from the airport…..

If you had lived while your sister, brother, mother, or best friend passed in the same accident then you would want people to hold their comments. You don’t know the story behind this story so please… before you throw rocks, think about what your saying and if it’s beneficial to anyone.

            May God be with this family and every person and child who is affected by the loss of their friend/family member/sister. May the love of God surround this family and community during this time.

          • Jahzaree Alexandra Gladden was and will forever be the best little sister you can ask for. She is an angel, and I believe with all my heart that there is a purpose for everything, and I rest knowing that the only reason God would take her away is if The Almighty has a bigger plan. I’m blessed to know that even at 8 my sister knew The Lord, she worshiped with me. The Last thing that happened in the car last night was prayer, My mom and Jahzzy prayed to the almighty. God has a plan. Pray that we will have the strength to go with his plan and let go of ours. On behalf of my family , I want to say thank you for all the prayers, all the words. May God Bless you all.         • Trudy, very well said. Only God knows his plan, every hair on our head is numbered and when The Lords plan is done he calls his children home to rest with him..
          It is still sad for us that are left here to deal with and with the Lords help we can only hope to cope with this loss…
