PALMDALE – A homicide investigation is underway in Palmdale after a man was found dead in the middle of the street early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Around 4:30 a.m., deputies responded to the intersection of 57th Street East and Avenue S in Palmdale, according to Lt. Dave Coleman of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
“A motorist found the body lying in the street, and we’re trying to determine what happened,” Coleman said.
The victim, a 31-year-old Hispanic male, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification, coroner’s officials said Sunday afternoon.
“There is some evidence of trauma, but not indicative of a traffic accident, so we believe that he probably suffered some type of other injuries,” Coleman said.
Coleman would not disclose further details on the victim’s injuries, saying an autopsy would determine the man’s cause of death.
“There was trauma and there was bleeding, and that’s all I can say for right now,” Coleman said. No further details were immediately available Sunday afternoon.
Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
UPDATED 2/16/14 @ 7:30 pm: The victim suffered from “blunt trauma,” according to an updated press release from the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The victim has been identified, but his name will not be released until his family has been properly notified.

Update to anyone that cares. Yes it was murder of the worst kind. He was beaten to death and stabbed .he was no gangster, he didn’t even have friends. Raul was a mentally sick person with the mentality if an 8 ur old child. He didn’t talk to anyone, bother anyone or hurt anyone. He was happy listening to his music and smoking cigarettes outside his house. Loved to walk around the streets. He didn’t deserve what happen to him. No one deserves to be beaten to death!

I believe he was dumped after being murdered…I moved here in 1989, and the worst thing was the racist attitudes of the old-timers. Once State Prison was built the pandora’s box was open wide; many parolees get placed in this area even if they’re homeless this includes registered sex offenders and a lot of druggies; family members of inmate’s have moved here to be closer for visits, etc. Lately, I’ve noticed more saggy pants, visible guns and people working together (in parking lot) asking for money. I’ve also witnessed shop-lifting, but I’m scared to death to alert store clerks.
We just all have to be vigilant of one another; watch as kids walk home and make sure they’re not being followed. Talk to our children of those that’ll try to lure you away and the ramifications.
I certainly hope the person(s) responsible will be located and jailed.
Palmdale resident says
You notice people with guns on their person but don’t call the police?! UNREAL!!!
AV Folk says
No kidding! Maybe the killer was one of the people this person apparently saw with a gun. I’d contact the police now and give them the info and description.
not all east side says
I have been leaving here in the east side
Of Palmdale for 10 years
and always been so quiet where I live
Thanks God, its not like some people
describe about the east side,
Belive me if that would be the case
I would probably been gone already
I have boys and I really think about their safety.
I live in the new homes area and seems to be
nice and quite.
I think the bad areas are between 5th E
and 40th or the homes behind wal-mart..
that looks trashy. ..

I moved to the AV back in 2011. Prior to that I have lived in both San Diego and Los Angeles. I am an LA native.
I agree, crime is everywhere. I live on the east side of Palmdale, borderline of sun village. Where I live, we have all these beautiful homes and in the middle, a trailer park.
We had our house broken in to last summer…there has been graffiti everywhere. But compared to what I saw while living in LA? I prefer the AV over anything else.
Residents need to speak and stand up for the community. We are the ones who make a difference. We stay quiet and crap will happen. Gotta stop living in fear.
The residents in my community have spoken and we have frequent Sheriff patrols.

I was a tot when my parents relocated to the AV from Glendale back in 1967. I grew up in the outskirts of Palmdale and it was soooo much different prior to 1990, and the year we all moved away from there.
After the Mall was built, then came the explosive population growth and buildings everywhere- and with that came the huge rise in crime.
The AV will never be what is once was- a charming safe neighborhood friendly semi rural area. What a shame.

Crime is every where.
I moved here from Glendale, 11 years ago, I am grateful we don’t see much crime as you would in most areas.
I’ve lived in Los Angeles, San Gabriel, Montebello, Glendale, San Marino, and Palmdale.
I experienced 4 assaults at gun point, and one of them was my own brother that was the victim.
And none of this crimes took place in Palmdale.
On top of that I got robbed 2 times and so did my mother in law, she was not so lucky she got her throat slit in Glendale.
The more we complain the more we see the bad, we need to pray for our community for our neighbors, for our families.
We need to be involved and make this a better place.
I do hope for a great turn around in my community.
By the way: good job to our sheriff department they are really busting a lot of criminals out of the beautiful A.V.
P.S. If you have the money to move elsewhere it will BE very helpful to our community to see you go away, only GOOD VIBES ALLOWED IN PALMDALE!
Meanwhile i will be praying for the poor family that sadly is going through this bad thing.
God Bless Palmdale.

Totally agree. I moved here from Glendale in 94. My dad was mugged at the 7-11 on Pacific and Colorado. I also remember when a dead man was found on the tracks crossing towards Frog town among lots of other incidents. Things like this happen everywhere. We are just more exposed to it now. Also, Glendale is now considered one of L.A.’s safest cities. Every place goes through it’s ups and downs. We need to work together and help make our community a safer place rather than just complain about it.
Alice says
I agree. When we criticize, complain and murmur we only release more of the same over our community. Prayer will release the goodness of God and shift the atmosphere over our city.
thesame says
what else do you expect from palmdale nothing less then this this is pretty sad that people drove by him and finally someone decided to say something
Irena says
Yes because there is so much traffic at 4:30 am on a Sunday. It is very possible that nobody but the person who reported the deceased actually saw anything.
AV Folk says
I think most people will report a dead body. Just a guess, but I’m pretty confident about it.
Okay says
This town has BEEN horrible. Especially on the east side it’s disgusting.
Tony says
It usually appears that way. It seems as if the East side of towns is the bad area and the West is usually the better area and all of the penitentiaries are located in the Northern part of the state from California to the East coast. Isn’t that an ironic coincidence?
red says
I don’t think all the penitentiaries are in northern Cali, do Mira loma in West Lancaster, chowchilla, crc, tehachapi, valley state, ring any bells, those r just the state not federal. Don’t ever move to West Oakland go east
tiff says
[removed] don’t go to Oakland at all…..every day somebody dieing on the news in Oakland
hector says
I believe there were.barried bodies disscoved In west lancaster.
hector says
Crime is everywhere . East or west youc ant run from IT. You can move from city to city and IT wont go away. What are the AV recidents doong to prevent IT.
lashanda says
this town is turning in to garbage
tori says
Not realy. I’ve been here since 95 and it’s way better than back then. It’s expected when you have the cheapest housing available for southern California. I guess you’re just now figuring out you live in the ghetto.
really? says
I was born and raised in the AV, been here since 1985. I used to be able to play outside, go for walks, ride my bike without fear. In the last 8 years in the same area there has been 3 shootings, 2 of which were deadly and I that happened right outside my front door. I definitely don’t feel as safe as I did back then. As our population grows, so does the crime. If you don’t see it, then you must be in denial. Ask the people who see it first hand, cops, ER docs and nurses, etc.
i second that says
I have to agree this valley has become much worse my family moved here in 79 and it was extremely peaceful back the all the way up to about 95 it has gone to crap since…
sony says
this is true I am a nurse and my friend is a police officer and you would be in shock if you really new the amount of crime (murder, rape, & child violence that exist) it is very sad, I don’t see myself living here very long
Palmdale resident says
If you live in an area where you or children can’t play outside, take walks or ride bikes you SERIOUSLY need to consider moving.
I live in East Palmdale, in a house that was built in 86 (so I’m not in a newer neighborhood)…. My children play outside every day; we go for family walks and I even exercise at *gasp* night. Not once have my children been kidnapped, have I been assaulted jogging or my home ever been robbed.
People can live in fear and constantly complain about Palmdale, or they can just *live*. Complaining on a local news website isn’t going to change a thing. There’s crime everywhere, we live in the real world.
Get real people! says
Well said- Palmdale resident
Me too.
God Bless our beautiful A.V!
tiff says
my family has been there since 1987 and OMG all of THE AV has changed some for the better and some for the worse. but that’s what happen when a town grows into a city
AV Folk says
I remember the good old days. Now everything is so different. Where are my dentures!
laughing lady says
AV Folk sums it up and made me LOL. If you can’t handle change, you probly also lost your dentures. Cities grow and people sometimes have to move, that is life on Earth
Irena says
There is no indication that it was murder. Until an autopsy is done, the police always handle suspicious deaths as a homicide.
wrong says
Trauma equals assault murder or hit and run
Doubtful its anything else.. Especially given the area of town it was in..
Irena says
My post was prior to the update. But blunt trauma could have been he fell and hit his head too. He might have been disoriented or drunk or whatever and wondered out into the middle of the road.
I am just so tired of everyone assuming the worst. Yes it could be a murder, it could have been a hit and run or it could have been something totally different.
