The Palmdale and Lancaster Sheriff’s Stations are in the process of selecting 50 interested residents from the station areas to participate in the Antelope Valley’s 30th Community Academy.
The purpose of the Academy is to build a better understanding between the community and the Sheriff’s Department through education.
This program will focus on the Sheriff Department’s operational procedures, as well as sessions ranging from criminal law to undercover operations.
Participants will also go on a ride-a-long, tour a custody facility and participate in role-playing exercises.
The class is absolutely free and meets for eight weeks, from March 24 through May 12, 2014.
Classes will be held Monday evenings, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Aero Building, located at 38256 Sierra Highway in Palmdale.
If you are interested in participating in the upcoming Community Academy, go to the Palmdale or Lancaster Sheriff Station and pick up an application at the front counter.
Applications can be obtained and returned at:

I did the community academy back in 2002…. It was really interesting, jail tour, ride along, used the radar gun on cars to see how they worked, shooting range….. I have no idea what all they do now…. Hope you have a good time if you get picked, learned a lot on what law enforcement deals with on a daily basis.
