LANCASTER – Residents from the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County can drop off up to one ton of trash for free at the Lancaster Landfill and Recycling Center on Saturday, April 12.
The annual free landfill day for unincorporated L.A. County residents takes place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lancaster Landfill, located at 600 East Avenue F.
“Spring is in the air and this is a great time of the year for residents to start their spring cleaning and take advantage of the annual free landfill day,” said Nicole Stetson, District Manager for Lancaster Landfill and Recycling Center. “We are committed to help keep our local communities clean by offering this free landfill service to our neighbors.”
Residents can bring up to one ton of trash, which includes residential waste, yard waste, construction and demolition debris, and bulky items free of charge.
To help minimize delays, Waste Management requests that visitors to the landfill follow these guidelines:
- Be ready, with valid identification, to show proof of residency to the cashier.
- All loads must be tarped pursuant to California State Law.
- All loads are subject to inspection.
- All contractor and commercial vehicles are subject to applicable rates unless prior arrangements have been made.
- Commercial vehicle and tractor tires are subject to standard gate rate fees.
- Household hazardous waste and commercial waste will not be accepted. Click here for a full list of acceptable and non-acceptable items.

Boy oh boy did I learn the hard way what a mistake it was for me to take advantage of free trash day. First: Four (4) hours is (censored). Also the 60 mins to unload because they search through my trash as if I was taking it through the airport. It was pretty bad. I am sorry to say, but alot of the trash that is near the Kill Bill church (200th st. east / Ave. G) was mine. I stopped my trash service with Waste Management simply because of there outrages $1200.00 per year. (compared to $240.00 per year when I lived in Sylmar) Anyway sorry people that I am a “gross litter bug” an no my real name is not Davey Jones Marcia Brady.

4 hours isn’t long enough for people to bring a bunch of junk. Some people have whole houses worth the junk. They should extend the time, or have more “free dump” days.

I would have to agree with you on this. 4 hours in a whole year for all of the residents of a largely unincorporated region is utterly insufficient!

There is more trash dumped in this desert than there is at the landfill. It breaks my heart to see what was once a beautiful, awe inspiring desert, turned into a dumping ground. Too many people just don’t care; they just care that it’s not in their back yard.

Hear that people, you no longer have to dump your trash on the side of Ave N, 90th East or any of the other roads and dirt trails where it causes issues for wildlife, hazards for outdoor enthusiasts and is just plain ghetto!
