PALMDALE – The Palmdale Aerospace Academy’s FRC Team 5012 – Gryffingear won their second Rookie All-Star Award and The Industrial Safety Award at the FRC Las Vegas Regional Competition this past weekend (April 4-6).
The Palmdale Aerospace Academy Gryffingear Robotics, which is made up of 36 students, six mentors and two advisors, joined together for five weeks in January to design and build their robot “The Golden Snitch.”
This past week, they traveled to Las Vegas for their second regional competition. The team finished the second day of the Regional, ranking 42 of 50 during the qualifying matches. Though not advancing to semi-finals, the team did move on to receive their Second Rookie All-Star Award, which celebrates the rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort.
In addition, they won The Industrial Safety Award sponsored by Underwriters Laboratories, which celebrates the team that progresses beyond safety fundamentals by using innovative ways to eliminate or protect against hazards.
“We are extremely proud of each and every member/student on this team, said Team Parent Nardy Lopez. “They have confirmed and demonstrated that commitment, sacrifice and hard work will lead them to reaching their goals. It is an honor and pleasure for me to be a part of their team.”
The team will travel to St. Louis, Missouri to compete in the 2014 FIRST World Championship on April 24 – 26, 2014.
They are seeking sponsorship support for their travel costs, which include shipping costs for their tools, pit booth, and much more.
