PALMDALE – Officials from wind power company Anywind Wind Power Electric, Inc. and the City of Palmdale gathered Tuesday to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the up-and-coming energy producer to manufacture its wind turbine systems in Palmdale.
“Today, Palmdale took a huge step forward in becoming a major player in the renewable energy market through this new opportunity with Anywind,” said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford. “Their goal is to be the world-class wind turbine total solution provider with salient blade, generator and inverter technology. Anywind couldn’t have picked a better place to build their innovative product than here in the Antelope Valley where the wind is a consistent natural resource.”
Using proven wind turbine technology to produce affordable renewable energy that is independent of subsidies, Anywind is a next generation total wind power system provider that offers solutions to meet both energy and environmental needs. Driving down the cost of wind power is their key target as they strive to make renewable energy independent of subsidies.
“Their product will be sold not only here in California, but throughout the country and the world,” said Palmdale’s Director of Economic Development and Communications Dave Walter. “It has great potential [to] generate hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue, while providing homeowners and businesses with a quality renewable source of electricity.”
Speaking on behalf of Anywind were chairman Manho Joung and Pishon Energy Chairman Dr. Byoung-Doo Lee. Pishon is the parent company of Anywind.
Anywind is establishing headquarters at 450 West Palmdale Blvd., and is looking to purchase the former Senior Systems Technology building, a 130,000 sq. ft. facility located at 600 Technology Drive, for its manufacturing.

Merging the two cities has been discussed for quite some time.. and actually, isn’t such a bad idea. The cost savings on salaries for City staff alone would total $Millions$ per year.. Then you add in cost savings from improved efficiencies, standards and the ability to command lower cost contracts (think Waste Management for example), and you’re talking additional $Millions$ per year.
If a referendum were to be put on the County/State ballot, I’d surely vote in favor of it.
Eric says
More so than merging the cities, we should secede from LA county. Think about it, draw county lines from Pearblossom/Llano to Leona Valley, Acton/Santa Clarita to Rosamond. We have enough citizens, infrastructure, skilled tradesman/technicians to have our own county, and the benefits of all funds being managed and kept locally as opposed to be shared disproportionately with the rest of LA county.
Wasn’t too long ago that Palmdale/Lancaster ended fiscal years in the black, and LA county couldn’t rationalize fast enough how they were going to stick their hand in the coffer. Antelope Valley County!

Best thing that could happen to us is become part of Kern County.
Eric says
Kern County would not serve our interests. While it would be better than LA, it still would treat us a far region as opposed to part of the community. Advocate for an independent Valley, maybe we can give one to our grandkids.

@Nikolas
Do you live in Lancaster or Palmdale?
palmcaster! says
It’s time we merge…PalmCaster! Then we can stop whining about Rex, and stop drooling over Ledford. It wouldn’t work though, Rex would slum it up with some lawsuits.
William says
As long as Rex is mayor, he will p*** off most everyone and you will have to listen to complaints and mockery of him.
Now, if he. somehow in an alternate universe, changed his ways, the ‘whining’ as you put it, would stop.
Palmdale doesn’t want to merge with Lancaster. Ever!
Rex wants a merger cause he’s managing a hopeless case north of the cactus curtain.
Matt K. says
No offense but “Palmcaster” is a stupid-sounding name. It sounds like the name of a roadside fortune-telling, scam operation. We get made fun of enough, as it is, by the rest of So Cal, so can we NOT go there????
How about “Amargosa Valley” named after the creek that flows through both cities? Plus, the area could keep the initials “A.V.” as well.
Eric says
“Palmcaster” is the hot pick, as opposed to “Landale”. I’m sure the fine folks at Palmcaster Equipment Rentals (off Avenue M, near the courthouse) would love it.
William says
It keeps amazing me how Mayor Ledford keeps things under the radar and then announces them with a small amount of fanfare, like this business and the Japanese rail car maker, etc.
Meanwhile, Rex and Marv boast and brag ad nauseum over every little hot dog stand opening in Lancaster.
Mayor Ledford keeps getting the job done while Rex and Marv blow hot air all over the Valley.
I prefer the former way of doing things.
LoL says
Has it occurred to you that nobody really cares what you think?
Eric says
His comment obviously influenced you to post a reply, so clearly, you care what he thinks. Silence is not golden when it comes to your surroundings. 1st amendment must not be important to you?
William says
@LoL
You didn’t dispute a thing I wrote. I guess you’re a Rex groupie. They come here often and write stuff like what you did.
