LANCASTER – Professional boxer Damian “Bolo” Wills claimed the $1 million prize this week, after purchasing a Scratchers ticket from a Lancaster liquor store, the California Lottery announced in a press release. Read it below:
Damian Wills is not a regular Lottery player by any means. But if pressed he’ll tell you that he loves the new California Black Exclusive Scratchers ticket. In fact, he loves it so much he drove to four stores last week looking for the new and very popular game.
“I don’t know why, but I felt like something kept telling me to play that game, that specific one. I don’t know if it was the commercial or the look of the ticket or what, but I kept coming back to it and it finally paid off,” he explained.
Paying off is an understatement; Wills won the top prize of $1 million! He told us that he was having a bad day last Friday, so when he got to his girlfriend’s place he scratched the ticket. His girlfriend didn’t believe he had won. Having to wait all weekend to claim his prize made for a sleepless couple of days.
“I didn’t sleep much at all until Sunday when I just crashed, I was exhausted,” he said. Wills plans to fulfill a dream and buy a home with his prize. He also plans to continue with his boxing career.
Wills bought his ticket at Bootleggers, which is located at 111 East Avenue K in Lancaster. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The California Black Exclusive Scratchers game is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education. The oversized ticket, which features an almost all black motif with a touch of gold, offers a total of 24 top prizes of $1,000,000. For more information on how to play, click here.
