PALMDALE – Less than a week after 52 motorists were cited as part of a “Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation” in Lancaster, a similar operation was conducted in the city of Palmdale.
On Wednesday, June 4, extra deputies were on duty in Palmdale patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur. Deputies were looking for drivers and riders under the influence of drugs or alcohol and cracking down on traffic violations made by motorcyclists, as well as other vehicle drivers, that could lead to motorcycle collisions, injuries, and fatalities.
The results of the Specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation in Palmdale are as follows:
- 31 vehicle stops
- 6 motorcycle stops
- 23 vehicle drivers cited for various primary causal factor violations
- 3 motorcyclists cited for various primary causal factor violations
- 2 suspended / revoked drivers were arrested and sent to court
- 2 vehicles were impounded for 30 days
The message to all drivers and motorcyclists is: Share in the responsibility and do your part by safely “sharing the road.” Riders can get training through the California Motorcyclist Safety Program. Information and training locations are available at www.CA-msp.org or 1-877 RIDE 411 or 1-877-743-3411.

So, I wonder what the reasons were for the motorcyclists cited? I am ALL FOR cars/trucks/etc, watching out for bikes. Bike riders have to be super vigilant at all times, my husband was almost taken out by a woman in an explorer who never turned her head before changing lanes-my husband always watches drivers in their mirrors, and she was too busy to look around. I’m all for these “enforcements” as long as they are not a witch hunt to target motorcyclists. That loud exhaust is designed to save lives, maybe if you can’t see us, you can hear us.

23 vehicles compared to 3 motorcycles. I doubt it is a witch hunt for motorcyclists. My parents were riders and to this day say loud pipes save lives. The problem is when they are approaching in a well insulated car those pipes can not be heard unless the motorcycle is heavily accelerating. It does work as they pass though or if the car is approaching the bike from behind.
