Juveniles arrested for allegedly assaulting joggers

PALMDALE – Sheriff’s detectives Thursday morning picked up two of the four juveniles accused of attacking a couple in their mid-40s out for an evening run in the Anaverde housing community.

Both juveniles were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and detectives are confident they will find the other two individuals, according to a press release from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station. Read it below:

On Friday, June 27th, at approximately 8:30pm, a man and his wife were on an evening run when they saw and heard four black juveniles yelling profanities and flipping the middle finger at oncoming vehicles. One of the juveniles was riding his bike in the roadway, taunting and challenging oncoming vehicles. At one point the juveniles began taunting a vehicle occupied by an elderly woman who was stopped at an intersection. The two joggers witnessed this incident and immediately stepped in by asking the four juveniles to stop their behavior. It was at this point the four juveniles closed in on the male jogger and began assaulting him. His wife yelled at the juveniles to stop fighting however they wouldn’t listen, they continued to punch the victim in the face and the back of the head causing substantial injuries. During the assault the female grabbed one of the juveniles but was quickly pushed to the ground by one of the other juveniles just before they all fled the scene.

A Good Samaritan witnessed the assault taking place and called 911. Deputies quickly arrived on scene and canvased the neighborhood looking for the four black juveniles but were unsuccessful in finding them.

For the past two weeks Palmdale Station Detectives conducted an intense and thorough investigation attempting to identify the male juveniles. Early this morning [July 10], both the Palmdale Station Partners Against Crime (PAC) team and station detectives conducted a search warrant which led them to the detention of two of the four juveniles. Detectives are still investigating the two outstanding juveniles but are very optimistic they will find the two individuals.

Both juveniles were booked at the Palmdale Sheriff Station and charged with an assault with deadly weapon. Both juveniles were transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall.

  1. It’s the snitches get stitches mentality. If you aren’t the victim then why should you care? they aren’t messing with me, why should I draw their attention? There is a reason for everything that happens, but their is hardly ever an excuse to justify the actions. You got suspended? you got fired? death in the family? someone wronged you? All reasons to act out of nature but never an excuse to justify poor behavior. When you don’t know when or how you may be a victim it is in your best interest to be prepared to defend yourself in the most effective legal way possible which may include using a firearm depending on the nature of the attack. I’m am not endorsing using a gun to fight a fist but if it is more than 1 vs 1 and I am not sure that my assailants will show restraint once I am no longer able to defend myself I will do what I can to get an advantage on the defense of my life and the lives of my loved ones. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evils is for good *people* to do nothing.” -Edmund Burke.

  3. Would love to know if the couple was white most likely they are due to the lack of info. For the 4 thugs should just lock them up now to avoid what they will do in the future 99% chance it will save a life. I’v seen theses thug types do this in other areas of the valley disrespectfully POS.

    • What difference does it make if the joggers are white, black, green or people. The point is what these teens did was wrong! That’s what wrong with this valley everyone is so concerned with race!

  5. Great job to the couple that spoke up and did the right thing for that poor elderly woman being taunted. Most folks wouldn’t have the guts to call the brats out.
    Hopes for a swift recovery to the brave couple. Thank you for protecting our community and our elders.

      However, I would not refer to those individuals detained in Sylmar Juvenile Hall as brats. I hope they get their act(s) together before they cause any other grief…

  6. If these kids have any previous records, I think they should be charged as adults, especially if they did not attend school full time last school year.

  7. This is why I am all for the right to bear arms. Criminals that can’t run are criminals that don’t need to be found.

    • Criminals that can’t run become martyrs for those who can.

      If enough incidences of crime being deterred by arms appear, will crime lower? Undoubtedly. The hidden part of the statistic is that the crimes that remain tend to become much more violent. For every action…

      • Still isn’t a lowered crime rate worth the trade? Crime will always happen, people will always hurt each other, but if we can lower the rate at which these crimes happen, even if by use of deadly weapons, then we owe it to ourselves to do so.

        Criminals cannot be aloud to run rampant for fear that a few of them might act out more aggressively. In fact, for those that do act out more aggressively, we must simply deal with them more harshly.

        • I’d like to see less crime, but I don’t want to see it at the expense of simple crimes growing much more violent. Does it really matter if we have 3 less robberies per week, when we have a case of 1/2 robberies now turning into murders? That is a hypothetical by the way!

          No, they can’t be allowed to run rampant. It has been shown through out centuries though that when cornered, the actions tend to get a lot more desperate. The criminals are already engaged in a continuing arms race against the cops, if we add the civilian populace into this mix, its a blood bath waiting to happen.

          I’m fairly biased due to some of the things I’ve seen though. The issue needs to be addressed, but blanket issuing CCW permits and advocating citizens exercising a death penalty on ALL criminals is far from the way to go.

          • I was attacked on my front lawn by three b…..men. they attacked me because i politely asked them not to continue to beat on the mail boxes – what saved me- A 210 GAUGE SHOTGUN!!!!

  9. It’s just sad all the way around..lack of respect and kids have become much more liolent now. Palmdale and Lancaster are not what they use to be many years ago.That’s why i plan on moving soon. Even my daughter moved from here because of the issues at her High school.Hope they find the other two and the couple is ok.

    • They’re taking their own future away. Nobody is doing it for them. And it doesn’t seem that they care that they are letting their futures slip away from them. As a child you are taught you do something, you deal with the consequences. Good or bad. Obviously they could care less.

        • No, sadly they won’t get what they deserve. If anything, they will get a slap on the wrist and probation – Even if this isn’t their first offense. Sylmar is just the grooming boot camp for state prison. Gotta get your AA in career criminology before working on the BA in the state university.

    • A taser or pepper spray would’ve worked fine. People want to bring up the CCW issue every time there is an instance of crime on the street. 4 dead juveniles wouldn’t have solved this problem. Truthfully, neither would have 4 incapacitated bodies going to jail.

      The issues need to be addressed at the core spot; home and community. Not the lethal means to terminate a problem.

        A taser or pepper spray may of worked just fine. Or not. The problem is that human life, once ended, cannot be revived via retroactive addressing of issues plaguing society. I agree with your views to a point – If everyone fired a shot whenever there was the potential that they might be a victim of violent crime this place would turn into Syria. However, I don’t want to become mulch at the hands of a mob attack – As the old saying goes, don’t bring a knife to a gun fight – And you aren’t any better off bringing a taser or can of mace to one either.

  13. I’ve been a teacher in the Antelope Valley for the last 20 years. I have definitely noticed a difference in the respect the children have towards their elders. Once a child swore at me in class, an eighth grader, and his parents called and asked me what I said to set him off. Are you kidding me? It is up to the parents to teach their children morality and respect.

    • That is a shame that you have to put up with that kind of attitude for the kids AND the parents.
      Parents are the cause of these kids’ terrible attitudes. It is W-R-O-N-G what you teachers are burdened with. Thanks for doing what you do and please remember there are a lot of good kids out there.

    • I agree, K. I, too, am a local teacher. I am seeing this from ALL races of children as well as from their parents. It is a failure of many parents to teach their children to respect elders and people in positions of authority as well as a lack of parents to show that same respect as well. I have seen many parents defend bad behavior against educators even when presented with direct evidence. Students with one or more failing grades come to school with extras…cell phones, brand name clothing, all matching, game consoles at home, but those with such a lack of student effort and achievement are often still rewarded without earning these amenities. Teacher calls home result in either a lack of contact (phones disconnected/wrong number/or students answer the phone and redirect the calls or just hang up). Some parents are great parents, but their child is continuing to exhibit poor behavior, without support, these parents reach the pinnacle of frustration and simply give up. It is unfortunate all the way around.

  15. … Just out of curiosity, where is the outrage from our local civil rights advocates? Where’s Parker and the rest of the community action league ? Figured since they’re so engrossed in protecting the civil rights of the citizens of the AV as well as their tireless devotion and dedication to exposing the injustice and hatred in this valley they should be planning a huge rally, march, candlelight vigil and press conference demanding that justice be served …

    Oh wait. Disregard. The victims were not African American – The perpetrators were – Guess the phone down at the race card shack will go straight to voicemail until the usual suspects can concoct a plausible theory that casts the blame solely on the victims – Stories have to be drafted, they have to turn the tables against the victims, polish the race card and come up with a theory that will sound great via a megaphone; I can hear what’s coming next; Husband and wife jogger provoked attack by going for evening jog and coming to the aid of an elderly woman – At some point someone used the N word, and out of frustration the poor misguided youth savagely attacked them – Sounds about right. If only there were jobs available for thugs, less white joggers, and a lack of victims this never would of happened … The sad part is this is the mentality of the so called ‘black’ leaders in this valley. Blame everyone but the ones who are responsible. Save the responses, I’ll handle that for the critics; Yes I’m racist and part of the problem since I posted this. Anyone who dares pointing out the facts is a hate filled racist – Fine. I’ll close this with but one question towards our minority support groups: Who will you blame when you or your family is targeted by the same group of people with the mentality you so freely and quickly defend …?

    • I heard Oprah Winfrey say that a whole generation of old people would have to die off before certain “mindsets” ceased to exist. I see that she is mostly correct. Hate is a self-perpetuating cycle. I’m sure it’s passed down to each generation. Those on the receiving end of the hatred simply learn to hate back. Maybe love is the answer.

      • Well if love is the answer, it must be tough love – Terrorizing an old woman before beating a husband and then attacking his wife is pretty harsh. Perhaps after they recover from their injuries they can mull over whether or not love would of prevented and/or stopped this attack. Rainbows, sunshine and flowers are probably not the best defense to utilize when one is being beat to the ground along with your spouse. I think it was luck and not love that prevented this assault from turning into a homicide. How is a random Oprah quote even relevant here? Being assaulted by a mob of thugs surpasses simply being ‘on the receiving end’ of hatred – More like statistic. As for any ‘hate’ mindset – No worries; at the rate this country is headed, these mindsets will either be pronounced dead or rendered comatose soon from blunt force trauma. You can stick with the love approach to fend off a violent attack – Maybe even quote some Oprah too – I’m sure that will work out in your favor. Best of luck with that.

      • I think more young people are haters than old people. Old people just want everyone to get along. Kids are going to war on eachother, everyday. When was the last time you saw a gang of old people in the streets beating up 2 young kids who were out getting some exercise. Yeah, never! (on the beating or exercise)

        • It’s been at least 20 years since I saw a group of old people beating up 2 young kids Nancy. I remember it quite vividly because I was the ‘victim’ – and the older couple were mom and dad kicking my butt because I was being a punk teenager lol. Don’t see that type of discipline anymore.

    • Aww, your white hood is dingy. I live here, the couple approached the kids. And if it happens to me, I will pepper spray whatever color of the rainbow they are and call the police. If you want to take the law in your own hands, you run the risk of getting knocked out. Sorry folks, YOUR valley has every color in it, you lost the fight….AGAIN!

        I’m confused. Are you saying that the husband and wife are to blame because they ‘approached’ the kids…? Read the article again. The couple ‘approached’ the ‘kids’ in an attempt to get them to stop harassing an elderly woman (she’s at fault to for simply stopping at a stop sign, right?) – Please clarify if ‘what’ happens to you.

        IE: Will you pepper spray a group of thugs attacking you, or a pair of good Samaritans that try to assist you? If that is the case, you better get skilled in the art of multitasking and I do hope you’re ambidextrous – That will definitely be an asset to call the cops with one hand and pepper spray with the other, which will probably be a tad difficult since your natural instinct will probably be to shield your face and head with both hands when you’re being kicked on the ground.

        The obtuse tone of your post in reference to ‘taking the law into your own hands’ is my favorite part; are you the type of person that would just stand by and watch an elderly person be attacked? You don’t only just run the risk of getting knocked out when you take the law into your own hands, you run the risk of getting knocked out simply by walking down the street in the AV. Better buy pepper spray in bulk Diana. YOUR valley has every color in it too, and one day you might loose the fight. I can only hope that some good citizen comes to your rescue when your little 1oz can of pepper spray runs out. Oh and thanks for your concern regarding the white hood being dingy; however there must be some confusion, because actually my hood is blue.

    • Brilliant observation John. ‘They could just be out of control’ … No foolin’? This goes beyond blame. It’s rooted in something called ‘responsibility’ – Having a personal value system and doing the right thing. Maybe I’m out of touch, but those are all contributing factors to something called ‘parenting’ – No, don’t blame the parents, the teenagers, the bad guys; no, blame society, blame government, blame it on anything and anyone other THAN those responsible. It wasn’t their fault, the devil made them do it. God forbid a parental unit or some form of authority step in and take control – It’s not the birth mother’s job to raise the kid and instill some form of value system and structure into the kids life – One the cord is cut the job of ‘mother’ get’s furloughed and outsourced to the police, teachers, social workers, anyone other than mom or dad. I forgot that in today’s society, the life span of the parental unit is about 9 months. My bad. Maybe I should go for a jog … Or not … Wouldn’t want to become a victim/bigot/racist/blame gamer/pot stirrer/statistic.

        So many parents have been telling their children they could be anything they want when they grow up, then failed to help their children make the plans and set goals to achieve those dreams. Kids are just out there floundering…

        • Some of the most important work in parenting is done before the age of THREE. Limits on behavior have to be set early.

    • John, I have to disagree with your comment. Most kids are not “OUT OF CONTROL”, they are “great kids”. The parents of the “great kids” obviously had a lot to do with how their children turn out. Granted, kids do have their own minds. Spend time with them, set good examples for them, and they will probably chose to go down a path that does not include violence & crime. On the other hand, do the opposite and the results will probably be negative in nature.
      It’s time we stop deflecting blame. Who is to blame here? The kids and their parents…

  19. is it just me or has palmdale / lancaster really gone down hill in a large way in the last year?

    • In the last year? The AV was a horrific place when I left in ’95. I grew up in Palmdale – it has gotten worse every year since we moved there in 1980.

    • Lancaster and Palmdale dident just start going down hill it has been for the last 10 years since they incurged people from LA to move up here it is a toilet now and we have to live in fear now because of it

      • Your Lake LA, meth head, trailer folks have created your lovely “tainted valley” …they just don’t make the paper as often….

        • Yeah they do Rob; they just don’t make the paper as frequently for attacking old ladies and beating down a husband and wife out jogging. As for the Lake LA meth head trailer folks, they’re part of the taint, but they didn’t create the violent brazen taint that has become an epidemic and the norm here in the AV.
