PALMDALE – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday August 8, 2014, at an undisclosed location in Palmdale between the hours of 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Deputies will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Deputies will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
In 2011, nearly 10,000 people were killed nationally in motor vehicle traffic crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or higher. In California, this crime led to 774 deaths because someone failed to designate a sober driver.
“Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 49 lives and resulted in 893 injury crashes harming 1,113 of our friends and neighbors,” said Sgt. Joseph Jakl of the Risk Management Bureau.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
Funding for the operation is provided to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Does anyone know where the checkpoint is?

DUI stats are skewed and they are using the big lie technique in AV(and all over) to arrest people who aren’t truly impaired=revenue booster:
1. If a sober driver runs a red light and crashes into a driver who has a BAC of 0.10 or greater, and the sober driver dies, the NHTSA will proclaim that this fatality is alcohol-related, even though alcohol had nothing to do with the crash and the intoxicated driver will potentially face vehicular manslaughter charges.
2. An accident is classified as alcohol-related when ANY ONE person, including passengers, pedestrians or cyclists, was thought – not necessarily proven – to have any amount of alcohol in their system at the time of the fatal accident. This method of classification can greatly skew statistics and cause them to be exaggerated and misleading.
3.DUI statistics are skewed. If there is an accident and one of the drivers have alcohol in their system, it is recorded as an “alcohol related accident”. In other words, the statistics only show that alcohol was present. The do NOT show that alcohol was the actual cause of all the accidents in the statistic. If most drivers in accidents were wearing red shirts, I could similarly claim that red shirts cause death and destruction on our highway.
4. A person who has had 1 beer could be sitting at a full stop at a red light and be fatally rear-ended by a totally sober person who whose driving capacity was diminished by any of a number of things (fight with girlfriend, screaming kids in the car, lack of sleep, recurring bouts of stupidity… etc). Even though this accident would be completely the fault of the sober person, the NHTSA would log this accident as an “alcohol-related fatality”.

If everyone follows the laws by not driving after drinking, having a license or having a valid license, proof of insurance and legally registered cars then these DUI check points wouldn’t be needed. Personally I think they are awesome and appreciate the Deputies getting these folks and cars off the streets. I wouldn’t want to be hit by an uninsured or unlicensed driver, not that I want to be hit, but at lease if an accident occurs the people involved are legal with insurance. All these folks crumbing on the Cops need to check yourselves and see why this upsets you so bad. Also the Sheriffs Department is contracted by the city to enforce laws, they don’t make the laws. If you have issues with current laws contact the city. We ALL have jobs to do, including the men and woman on the Department. (stepping off my soap box)
No Notice says
If they really want to catch people then the department should stop releasing the when and where of the situation. Let it be a surprise!
Irena says
it is required by law to announce them ahead of time.
Only in the AV says
So, the predator cops and their predatory revenue enhancing tactics will be shaking down more people over the weekend in hillbilly-land? Glad I’ll be moving myself to a real city that night where policing for profit isn’t so obvious. Remember, those predator cops making a living off of your paycheck will be at the bar Sunday tossing back the brewskies, chasing down the badge bunnies, and doing the same exact thing you got tossed for. That’s what makes them predators.

I’m starting to think this is just a quick get rich schemes from palmdale and lancaster. They see the cars that pass by as money bags i doubt they are there to protect.
Joe says
Ruin there plan by not violating the law. That’ll teach’em.
David says
As soon as we have comprehensive immigration reform and lift people out of poverty these stops will no longer be “cost effective.” The primary reasons for these checkpoints have nothing to do with drunk driving.
Irena says
Why is it our job to lift others out of poverty? My paternal grandparents were undocumented immigrants from Ukraine back in the 1930’s. They learned the language and did very well for themselves. They never depended on others to support them.
Liberal BS if you ask me.

1930’s was another era [removed]. It’s like comparing a 1920’s car to a 2014 car.

@Lancaster commuter
Immigration is immigration. In fact boarders were even more porous then then they are now. When my grandparents came here there was no government protection or assistance. Store owners and employers could easily post things like “No (insert nasty derogatory remark here) need apply” My grandparents were required to learn English so they could pass the citizenship test.
