PALMDALE – Registration is underway for the City of Palmdale’s fall bus excursions. The schedule includes various fun-filled locations and events throughout Southern California.
“There is something for everyone in our fall excursion schedule,” said Palmdale’s Recreation Supervisor Paula Leszkiewicz. “These are fun and affordable outings that touch upon a diverse range of interests and activities. Best of all, we do the driving so you can relax.”
Registration is available at www.cityofpalmdale.org/playpalmdale. For assistance, call 661-267-5611.The City requires a minimum of 20 registrants for an excursion to take place. Individuals who wish to purchase more than eight tickets for any one trip must contact the excursion supervisor. Cancellations must be made two weeks in advance of excursion.
All excursion busses will meet at Palmdale Transportation Center, 39000 Clock Tower Plaza. The name of each person attending, address, phone number, emergency contact, and each minor child’s birth date are required. An adult must accompany anyone under age 18.
The fall excursions include:
Santa Barbara Zoo – Sept. 13, 8 am – 7 pm. $20R/$25 NR (R- Palmdale resident; NR – non Palmdale resident).
Known as one of the world’s most beautiful zoos, the Santa Barbara Zoo is home to more than 160 species of mammals, reptiles, birds and insects exhibited in open, naturalistic habitats. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains, the zoo also features 30 acres of lush botanic gardens, including native plants and trees, formal gardens, open lawns and natural habitats. After your zoo visit, take the 50¢ Waterfront Shuttle to Stearns Wharf and State Street.
The Getty Center Los Angeles – Sept. 27, 9 am – 5:30 pm. $13R/$18 NR
The Getty Center presents a collection of western art from the middle ages to the present set against a backdrop of dramatic architecture, tranquil gardens and breathtaking views. European paintings, drawings, manuscripts, sculpture, decorative arts, and European and American photographs make up the famed Getty collection.
Historic Downtown Los Angeles Walking Tour – Oct. 11, 8:15 am – 5:30 pm. $15R/$20 NR
For more than 25 years, the Los Angeles Conservancy has been sharing Los Angeles’ unique architectural treasures with the public. Covering a wide range of architectural styles, including anecdotes about the people behind the buildings, this tour is a great way to became acquainted or reacquainted with the character of Pershing Square and the surrounding area known as Historic Downtown L.A.
Calabasas Pumpkin Festival – Oct. 18, 9 am – 5:30 pm. $13R/$18 NR
Celebrate Fall at the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival. This annual event features entertainment and a craft marketplace for one-of-a-kind items, including harvest and Halloween novelties. The Pumpkin Pavilion features delicious pumpkin food specialties and traditional favorites.
The Arboretum & Botanic Gardens – Nov. 1, 9:30 am – 5 pm. $13R/$18 NR
The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is a botanical garden and historical site nestled into hills near the San Gabriel Mountains in Arcadia. A stroll through the Arboretum will take you through a variety of gardens and landscapes as well as historical sites that include Native American, Rancho Period and 19th Century treasures.
Pompeii: The Exhibition & IMAX Movie – Nov. 15, 8:45 am – 7 pm. $31R/$36 NR
Come discover over 150 precious artifacts on loan from the Naples National Archeological Museum in Italy, which offer a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle and tragic end of this ancient Roman society. Artifacts include marble statues, gladiator helmets, garden frescoes, coins and much more. Relive the volcano’s catastrophic eruption through an immersive multimedia experience at the California Science Center.
Festival of Lights – Dec. 6, 2 pm – 10 pm. $13R/$18 NR
The annual Riverside Festival of Lights is your chance to experience the most dazzling holiday spectacle south of the North Pole! The festival celebrates the Holiday season with lights, decor, vendors, entertainment, an outdoor ice skating rink and, of course, Santa Claus. Skating fees are additional and may be purchased at the venue.
