Community Academy XXXI starts Sept. 16

LASD logoThe Palmdale and Lancaster Sheriff’s Stations are in the process of selecting 50 interested residents from the station areas to participate in the Antelope Valley’s 31st Community Academy.

The purpose of the Academy is to build a better understanding between the community and the Sheriff’s Department through education.

Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, located at 501 West Lancaster Boulevard in Lancaster. The class is absolutely free and meets from Sept. 16 through Nov. 4, 2014.

This program will focus on the Sheriff Department’s operational procedures, as well as sessions ranging from criminal law to undercover operations.

Participants will also go on a ride-a-long, tour a custody facility and participate in role-playing exercises.

If you are interested in participating in the upcoming Community Academy, go to the Palmdale or Lancaster Sheriff Station and pick up an application at the front counter.

Due to the limited classroom space, only the first 50 applicants will be accepted; therefore you will be notified only if you are selected. Those applicants who are eligible but are not enrolled in the academy class will be placed on a list for possible future selection.

  2. I feel good scenarios will come within this project. As a group, keep the man above first. Always remembered, The man above knows all. Time is limited, to all believers. You can have it all, but when your day comes. We all know the rest. Death,Cancer, Diabetes, STD, HIV, & Judgement Day. Has no date, gender, ethnic, nor time & date. Be goooood, have a Blessed Day

  3. Since I’m a senior, I can’t do this, but at one time I would have. I’m married to a retired DS whose told me so much, so I really appreciate and admire our police forces for what they undertake and their families also.

    Too bad more serious minded people couldn’t be involved. I think all school aged children should get a tour of the jail and maybe have a taste of being behind bars for 15 minutes.

      Seniors take this class all the time…I’m also a senior and really enjoyed it…
      You mostly just sit in class and learn!! You can do a ride along, with is fun, tour jails, etc.
      Doesn’t matter if your a senior or what shape your in, no physical training required. Don’t let that stop you!!!
      You’ll enjoy it!!!

  4. This is a great class for anybody to take to better understand how our local law enforcement works. I guarantee that you’ll never regret the time spent in these classes.
