PALMDALE – A Palmdale elementary school was placed on lockdown Wednesday after a student overheard a comment that a weapon was on campus, according to a statement from the Palmdale School District (PSD).
Tamarisk Elementary School, located at 1843 East Avenue Q 5 in Palmdale, was placed on a campus lockdown that ended at approximately 1:20 p.m., after a thorough search of the campus by Sheriff’s personnel.
“We can confirm there was no incident or injuries and no weapon was found anywhere on school grounds,” said PSD officials in the statement. “We want to assure everyone that the staff, students and parents were safe before, during and after the lockdown.”
“While these types of events are no doubt alarming, lockdown procedures were implemented smoothly and calmly and we commend our staff, students, administrators, parents and the sheriff’s department for their cooperation. Safety in our schools is a partnership between our staff, students and community,” the PSD statement continued.
