LANCASTER –Eastside Union School District officials Friday morning cut the ribbon on the newest school campus in Lancaster.
Enterprise Elementary School, the District’s fifth campus, is located at 3730 East Avenue J-4.
It hosts a student body of approximately 750 students, but the capacity of the school is approximately 1100 students, according to Eastside School District Superintendent Dr. Mark Marshall.
“After looking at plans for so many months and years, it is more than gratifying to actually see the facility up and running,” Marshall stated. “I am so proud of the teachers, the staff, and most of all, the students who are all making this new school something the community can be proud of.”
Grand opening festivities at the school Friday morning included a guided tour of the school and a dedication ceremony that included Marshall, Eastside Union School District board members and Lancaster city leaders. The program was led by Enterprise Elementary School Principal Jordan Goines.
This is Goines’ first assignment as principal. “Words cannot express how exciting it is to come to work every day in such a wonderful facility. I think there’s something about this school that just makes it exciting to come to work every day,” Goines states. “I see it in the students, I see it in the parents, and I can see it in the teachers. I believe that this school is going to create a tradition of excellence going forward.”
The new school campus benefits the community by helping to keep its elementary schools at an optimal size, Marshall said.
“We had one school, Columbia [Elementary], that would open with 900 students; but now they’re all in the 600-700 [student range], so it keeps your elementary schools lower,” Marshall said. “An added benefit is we were able to make all our elementary schools K-6, and our middle schools are just two grades now – just 7th and 8th.”
“We are very excited to see the continued growth of the District, and we are especially excited to see such a great facility being built to educate our young people,” stated School Board President Janette Crawford. “This state-of-the-art campus is going to be so useful in helping us achieve our mission, which is helping our students be successful academically.”
