PALMDALE – The Palmdale Sheriff Station is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian nearly two weeks ago on Avenue T, east of 70th Street East.
The pedestrian has been identified as Jorge David Santiago, a 45-year-old homeless man, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, Santiago was walking westbound on Avenue T, in the westbound lane of traffic, when he struck by a vehicle.
The unknown driver left the scene without stopping or checking on the Santiago; and the 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics.
“Palmdale Station Traffic Detectives believe the vehicle was a GMC. The vehicle would have front damage to the headlight area and possibly a missing bumper,” detectives said in a press statement.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Detective Brent Bunch at 661-272-2423.

Many areas around Palmdale are not well lit, just the same drivers need to yield to pedestrians. It may angry some people that cross walks are not being used, yet we need to remember that a human being is not match for a GMC truck and it is in our power as drivers to prevent such tragedies.
God Bless you my friend. May god shine his grace on you. You will be always remember and never forgotten.

This is ridiculous, there is a hit and run every week. People slow down and watch for pedestrians.

I agree that people need to drive cautiously and slower, but pederstrians also need to do their part and not jaywalk or walk in the middle of the road especially at night. Pedestrains need to be as defensive and alert as drivers do. I’m not excusing the actions of this driver. The driver commited a crime and they should have stayed at the scene and called 911 instead of leaving this poor man to die, but the pederstrian should not have been walking in the westbound lane of traffic either. It’s very sad and I feel sorry for this man whose life was taken.

Amen. I get irritated when i see a person just cross the street with a crosswalk by them. Will it kill them to walk the extra feet to NOT cause an accident? I’ve had many close calls to these people as well! So many countless times I had to hit a brake to avoid killing/hurting someone doing this.
Motherof4 says
Agree, the pedestrians need to do their part as well.
