LOMA LINDA – A 36-year-old Palmdale driver struck and killed a pedestrian who ran into the path of his Freightliner on Interstate 10, authorities said.
The fatal collision happened around 9:55 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24, according to a preliminary report by the California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Area.
Luis Munguia of Palmdale was driving a 2010 Freightliner east on Interstate 10, at an unknown speed, when a 27-year-old Loma Linda man attempted to run across eastbound Interstate 10 from the right shoulder, just east of Mt. View Avenue, the CHP report states.
“For reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian ran into the path of the Freightliner. The force from the collision threw the pedestrian onto the right shoulder of eastbound I-10,” the CHP report states.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Loma Linda Fire Department. His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
Munguia was not injured in the collision.
