PALMDALE – A 22-year-old Palmdale woman died after she was ejected from a vehicle that careened off Sierra Highway early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The victim, identified by coroner’s officials as Jackeline Abigail Matias-DeLeon, was a passenger in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe that crashed around 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, according to Detective Quemuel of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“The vehicle was traveling southbound on Sierra Highway just south of Avenue M,” Quemuel said. “The driver lost control of the vehicle, went over the center median… collided with the curb, crossed over the bike paths, collided with the wooden rail fence and ended up in the ditch.”
The driver, identified only as a man in his 20s, was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment.
Matias-DeLeon was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It doesn’t seem as if her seat-belt was actually attached at the time of the incident, so she was ejected,” Quemuel said.
Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be a factor, and no arrest was made in connection with the collision, Quemuel said.
A portion of Sierra Highway was closed to traffic from around 3:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. to allow for the investigation.

RIP to the young woman who lost her life in this senseless tragedy…
The people involved know the circumstances surrounding the accident, the rest need to find a hobby other than passing judgement on the lives of the driver & young woman who passed away.

He was probably on his phone. Maybe he should have slowed down when he realized she took her seat belt off. My cousin knows him…..history of meth. I hope the police investigate this. Such a tragedy this poor girl had to die. Nothing good happens at 3 am on Sierra Hwy. A man would have made sure his woman was home safe and not driving around at that time of night.

Americans are not very good drivers. This is because their driving test is so simple to pass even a blind person wouldn’t have much of a problem passing it so the result of untrained and unskilled drivers leads to unnecessary deaths.

I can’t believe this happened to you. You were such a caring person. You wanted better things in life for your mom, siblings, and son. You will be missed dearly. I will continue to remember the smile and laughs we shared. How you would come over to my house and we would spend hours and hours talking about life and future plans. You’re in better hands now.

That brings the number of vehicle deaths to the grand total of 10 in approximately 5 weeks. The AV what a hole!

You should leave if that’s what you feal

The loss of life is tragic, regardless of circumstance. Some of you people need to stop with the constant rumor mongering.
The sheriffs’ handling of the traffic was atrocious though. Even one officer signaling the detour would’ve made a world of difference.

I would guess the common reason for most accidents… He may have been looking down at his cell phone or hers.. Or an iPod

People need to be responsible for their actions…should the driver be responsible for his passengers??? Who cares what caused this driver to lose control!!!! Fact is, she lost her life.. because she elected to be a passenger without a seat belt!!!!chances are she may still be alive today!!!! People seat belts are there for a reason, to give us a chance in case of an accident…..

Makes since some women are crazy, they do shot like that all the time. Who knows. Wondering if pearents fought her to always wear a seat belt. Or maybe took it off before grabbing the wheel

Whos this?
J says
She grabbed the steering wheel?
Moose says
This accident doesn’t make sense. If speed or alcohol wasn’t a factor, why did he lose control? Something happened to make him lose control. The Sheriff need to investigate because this doesn’t add up.

Fell asleep at the wheel?
