PALMDALE – A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was injured Friday morning after he lost control of his motorcycle at a Palmdale intersection and crashed into another vehicle, authorities said.
The traffic collision happened just before 8:30 a.m. in the intersection of 50th Street East and Columbia Way (Avenue M).
A motorcycle deputy was traveling eastbound on Columbia Way, when he tried to negotiate a right turn onto southbound 50th Street East and lost control of the motorcycle, according to Lt. Johnson of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“He was in the performance of his duties as a motorcycle officer,” Johnson said. “He was going to contact a motorist as a result of that motorist speeding, and he lost control of the motorcycle before he caught up to the vehicle.”
The deputy’s motorcycle crashed into a car that was stopped on northbound 50th Street East, according to Johnson.
“[The deputy] was transported to a local hospital and he’s being treated for his injuries,” Johnson said. A female driver, the sole occupant in the car, was also transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Lots of accidents at this intersection, seems many get confused about whether to stop or not, while others blast strait into the outside lane or worse. There was a light drizzle, wouldn’t be surprised if he just tucked the front and down he went. Wish a speedy recovery to all!

I’ve noticed not only on this post but throughout the years, that many citizens believe motorcycle officers don’t abide to the rules of the road themselves and tend to speed a lot. Well, most people do not see motor units very often enough while driving to raise concern or accusations but they (motorcycle police) do see you. Most motorcycle riders will agree that leaving the line, meaning to proceed to your destination from a dead stop, a red light for example, much more faster to the legal speed limit than your automobile does and would look to most as if they were “speeding”. Motorcycle officer’s in California have the hardest qualifications to past that 91.50% plus officers fail when they’re called from a waiting test with 5 years in. Trust me, if you do see a motor officer traveling in what one might thinks is speeding, I’m sure they are responding to a call such as an injury accident or a deputy requesting assistance and would most likely have their lights and sirens on. Too close this post, I too am not fond of the LASD but I will always “back the badge”. Thank-you.

Like another commenter stated, it’s nice to see positive or supporting well wishes for a deputy (or law enforcement officer), even begrudgingly. We know not the circumstances of how he lost control of the bike, but repeating another poster, they do put a lot of miles, difficult miles, on those motorcycles and it is a shame he fell on what is considered a simple right turn. Again, we don’t know what happened and all we can hope for is a speedy recovery for both the deputy and the motorist who had the misfortune of being in the way.

My Neighbor is a motor officer, It’s pretty rare actually that those guys crash. They are very good riders and considering the milage they cover, they have a very good safety record. Here’s to a speedy recovery Deputy

Motorcycles should taken away and replaced with a car so we taxpayers don’t get nailed every time these guys fall down.
Fedup with people says
Because cops in cars never get hurt when they crash while on duty, right?
RX says
I do believe that cops have to pay taxes as well… So they are considered “tax payers” and pretty much pay their own salary and as you stated, they too “get nailed when these guys fall down”.
Beri says
Anyone whose salary is derived from taxpayers is remitting or refunding a portion of their pay back to the state or fedgov. The only true taxpayers are those in the private sector.

Shouldn’t you be concerned the motorcyclist is ok and not be just thinking about youself?? Hoping for a speedy recovery to the deputy and the driver of the car!

I hope both the officer and other driver will be OK. Accidents can happen to the best of us. That’s why they’re called accidents.
